💙🐾 HAPPY 1-YEAR GOTCHA DAY TO ALUM DRACO (FORMERLY DOC)! 🎉

On October 4th, our handsome blue boy celebrated ONE WHOLE YEAR in his forever home with his wonderful parents, Katrina and McKenzie! And judging by these pictures, somebody has figured out exactly how to live the good life! 😂

What does a spoiled Weimaraner get for his Gotcha Day dinner? STEAK AND HARD-BOILED EGGS! 🥩🥚 His absolute favorites!

Just look at those eyes! Draco is clearly wondering why his personal chef is wasting valuable eating time taking pictures instead of putting that bowl on the floor!

For those who remember our sweet Doc McDreamy, this boy’s journey wasn’t always easy. He had to wait a little longer to find the family that was truly meant for him. But looking at him now, we couldn’t be happier that Katrina and McKenzie saw the same incredible dog we did.

From a second chance in rescue to steak dinners in his forever home, this is exactly why we do what we do. 💙

Happy 1-Year Gotcha Day, Draco! Keep being your goofy, handsome, long-legged self. You deserve every bit of happiness, every snuggle, and apparently every steak your parents are willing to share!

Thank you, Katrina and McKenzie, for giving our sweet boy the forever he always deserved. We absolutely love watching him be loved! 🥹💙

🏖️💕 FOSTER LUCY HAS OFFICIALLY BECOME A BEACH PARTY GIRL! 💕🏖️

Move over, beach babes! There’s a new queen of the coastline, and she has four legs, gorgeous gray fur, and absolutely no intention of giving up her vacation lifestyle! 😂

Foster mom Monica took Miss Lucy to the beach over the weekend, and judging by these pictures, this girl was BORN for bikini weather, ocean breezes, and toes in the sand!

Lucy spent her beach day investigating the waves, digging in the sand, hanging out with her canine friends, and apparently deciding that beachfront property is exactly what her future requires. 🤣

And when the exhausting responsibilities of being a beach queen became too much? She retired to her luxurious accommodations for a well-deserved nap. Because being this fabulous is HARD WORK!

We absolutely love watching Lucy experience new adventures and embrace every opportunity that comes her way. From running marathons with her foster siblings Flint and Mae to living her best coastal life, Lucy is making the most of every single day!

Monica, we think you may have created a monster. This girl is going to expect ocean views, room service, and a personal beach attendant from now on! 😂💙🐾

National Spread Joy Day

😊 Some dogs have an incredible way of bringing joy into a room without even trying.

A wagging tail when you walk through the door.

A gray nose appearing beside you when you’ve had a long day.

A ridiculous sleeping position that makes you laugh.

A head resting quietly in your lap.

Or that unmistakable Weimaraner look that says, “Whatever you’re doing, I should probably be involved.” 💙

For National Spread Joy Day, we’re celebrating all the dogs who make ordinary days just a little better.

Rescue can begin during a difficult chapter in a dog’s life—but watching that dog settle into a foster home, learn to trust, find their family, and eventually become someone’s source of daily joy is one of the best parts of what we do.

And that joy travels both ways.

Dogs change our lives.

National Chess Day

♟️ Your move.

It’s National Chess Day, which feels strangely appropriate when you live with a Weimaraner.

These dogs are smart.

Sometimes frighteningly smart. 😂

You put the treats on the counter.

They study the board.

You move the treats to a cabinet.

They reconsider their strategy.

You install a baby gate.

They begin planning three moves ahead.

Checkmate, human.

Keeping intelligent dogs mentally engaged is important, and enrichment doesn’t have to be complicated. Puzzle toys, sniffing games, short training sessions, hide-and-seek, food puzzles, and learning new skills can all give busy brains something productive to do.

That mental exercise can be just as valuable as physical activity—especially for a breed that loves having a job.

💙 HAN SOLO IS OFFICIALLY READY FOR ADOPTION! 💙

8 Years Old | Male Blue Weimaraner | Wilmington, NC

Ladies and gentlemen, our handsome Han Solo, better known as Solo, is officially searching for his forever family! And let us tell you, this boy has come a LONG way since arriving at Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue!

When Solo first came to us, he was timid, unsure of new people, and carrying quite a few extra pounds. Today, thanks to his wonderful foster family, he’s a happy, affectionate, social boy who is enjoying life, making friends, and FINALLY developing a waistline! 😂

SO, WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT SOLO?

🐾 People: Solo absolutely adores his humans! He can be timid initially, but once he gets comfortable, he is a total Velcro Weimaraner. He loves affection, belly rubs, and being wherever his people are.

🐾 Other dogs: He does wonderfully with other dogs! He has lived with multiple dogs in foster care, enjoys playing, and has a sweet, submissive personality.

🐾 Cats: Solo has done well around cats in his foster home.

🐾 Housebroken: Yes! He’s also crate trained, although he may express his displeasure about being left in his crate.

🐾 Children: Solo previously lived in a home with a toddler. As with all our adoptions, we will evaluate the best fit for any household with children.

🐾 Barking: Solo has appointed himself neighborhood watch commander. If something moves outside, he believes everyone deserves a full report. Because he can be quite vocal, apartment living would not be ideal.

🐾 Sleeping arrangements: This is important, folks. Solo sleeps in the bed, preferably UNDER the covers! He also believes couches were invented specifically for oversized blue Weimaraners. His foster dad Mike has become his favorite sleeping companion, much to the disgust of resident medical foster Gabi, who would like her bed back! 😂

🐾 Personality: Sweet, affectionate, goofy, a little dramatic, and happiest when he’s with his people. He enjoys walks, exploring, and then spending the remainder of his day recovering on the nearest couch.

LET’S TALK ABOUT HIS HEALTH!

Solo is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and receiving his preventatives.

He came into rescue significantly overweight, but thanks to his foster moms Ellen and Zoe, those extra pounds are coming off! Just look at his latest pictures. OUR BOY HAS A WAISTLINE! 😂

Solo must remain on his prescription weight-management diet with measured portions, no food toppers, no table scraps, and no extra treats. His kibble can be used for training rewards.

He also has a history of skin sensitivities and ear infections that require monitoring. His intake bloodwork showed elevated liver values, which have been addressed with medication and a follow-up monitoring plan. He has a somewhat awkward gait that his veterinarian evaluated, and continuing his weight-loss journey will be important for his comfort and mobility.

WHAT IS SOLO LOOKING FOR?

A loving home where he can be part of the family, receive plenty of attention, enjoy comfortable walks, and have humans who understand that he may need a little time to adjust.

He would do well with compatible dogs, has experience living with cats, and needs a family committed to maintaining his health and weight-loss progress.

Most importantly, he needs someone who understands that adopting Solo means accepting a large blue shadow who follows you around, talks to the neighborhood, steals your blankets, and occasionally believes your breakfast belongs to him.

💜 Medical Foster Gabi Update: How Many Roommates Does One Girl Have to Tolerate?! 💜

Our sweet blue Weimaraner Gabi would like to know WHO IS IN CHARGE OF ADMISSIONS AT THIS HOUSE AND WHY THEY KEEP APPROVING NEW RESIDENTS WITHOUT HER PERMISSION?! 🤣

First, they brought home Foster Han Solo. An enormous blue Weimaraner who apparently believes every couch, bed, blanket, and comfortable sleeping spot in the entire house was purchased specifically for his oversized backside.

Gabi used to have options. She had favorite places to sleep, plenty of room to stretch out, and unlimited access to her humans. Now she has to navigate around a giant blue bed hog who has absolutely no understanding of personal space or seniority.

And just when she thought things couldn’t get any more ridiculous, THEY BROUGHT HOME A BEAGLE! 😂

A little beagle foster who has apparently decided that Gabi’s house is also a perfectly acceptable place to live.

Gabi is currently reviewing her options.

Should she befriend the new arrival? Challenge the little intruder for control of the household? Or simply stare at her foster parents until they realize they’ve made another terrible administrative decision?

Judging by these pictures, she’s leaning toward filing a formal complaint with management.

And the funniest part is that Gabi isn’t opposed to new arrivals. Not at all!

New humans? Absolutely! Bring them all! More hands for petting, more laps for cuddling, more people to worship her royal blue backside!

New dogs? MA’AM, WE ARE AT CAPACITY! 🤣

She would like to remind Foster Mom Ellen and Foster Dad Mike that this is supposed to be a foster home, not a Weimaraner-and-Beagle retirement community with unlimited check-in privileges.

Meanwhile, Solo has claimed the couch, the little beagle is settling in, and Gabi is lying on the floor wondering how she went from being the queen of the castle to sharing accommodations with two uninvited roommates.

Our little medical foster may have some physical challenges, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with her ability to judge everyone else’s life choices. 😂

Hang in there, Gabi. We promise you’re still loved, still spoiled, and still the queen of your foster home.

Even if management keeps making questionable housing decisions. 👑💜

Houston, we have an email problem! 📧🐶

I’ve sent out several foster requests this week, and apparently our email providers have decided we’re a little TOO enthusiastic about finding homes for Weimaraners! 😂

With the number of dogs coming into rescue, we’ve discovered that at least 50% of our foster emails are being blocked or filtered! That means many of you aren’t even seeing the dogs who need foster homes!

🚨 If you want to continue receiving foster requests, PLEASE do the following!

Please add this address to your contacts and approved or safe senders list. You can also approve our entire domain: tarheelweimrescue.org

Here’s how to fix it:

✅ Gmail: Check your Spam folder, select any emails from us, and click “Report not spam.” Add our email address to your contacts.

✅ Yahoo: Check Spam, mark our emails as “Not Spam,” and add us to your contacts.

✅ Outlook/Hotmail: Go to Settings → Mail → Junk Email → Safe Senders and Domains. Add our email address or domain.

✅ AOL: Check Spam, mark our emails as “Not Spam,” and add our address to your contacts.

✅ Apple/iCloud Mail: Check your Junk folder, move our emails to your Inbox, and add our address to your contacts.

Please also check your blocked senders list! If our address or domain is blocked, remove it. Otherwise, you could miss every foster opportunity we send!

🌀🐾 HURRICANE SAFETY: PROTECTING OUR FOUR-LEGGED FAMILY MEMBERS BEFORE, DURING & AFTER THE STORM! 🐾🌀

With hurricane season bringing the possibility of severe storms, flooding and damaging winds across the Carolinas and surrounding states, Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue wants to remind everyone that preparing for your pets is just as important as preparing for your family. Whether you’re directly in a storm’s path or in an area that could experience heavy rainfall and flooding, a little preparation can save lives.

🐾 BEFORE THE STORM: Make sure collars, ID tags and microchip information are current. Prepare an emergency kit with at least 5–7 days of food, clean water, medications, leashes, vaccination records and medical supplies. Have crates ready and know where you can evacuate WITH your pets. Never leave animals chained outside or abandoned in a home during an evacuation.

🐾 DURING THE STORM: Keep dogs safely indoors and provide a quiet place for those frightened by thunder and wind. Only take them outside for necessary potty breaks when conditions are safe. Never risk lightning, dangerous winds or rising water just to maintain a normal routine. If authorities order an evacuation, take your pets with you!

🐾 AFTER THE STORM: This is where we want everyone to be especially careful! NEVER allow dogs to swim, play, drink or walk through floodwater or moving water. Floodwater can contain sewage, chemicals, sharp debris and dangerous bacteria, including those associated with leptospirosis. Even shallow moving water can sweep a dog away.

Before letting dogs back into the yard, inspect fences, gates, fallen trees, exposed wires, broken glass and debris. Watch for displaced wildlife, especially snakes, raccoons and skunks seeking higher ground. Keep dogs leashed until you know the area is safe, and avoid running or playing on saturated, slippery ground.

If your dog has been exposed to floodwater, rinse contaminated fur and paws with clean water when safe, prevent licking and contact your veterinarian about the exposure. Watch for vomiting, diarrhea, fever, lethargy, changes in urination or appetite, and other unusual symptoms.

❤️ TO OUR FOSTER FAMILIES: Please make sure you have enough food, medications and supplies for your foster dogs, along with crates, leashes and an evacuation plan. Keep your rescue coordinator informed if severe weather threatens your ability to safely care for your foster. Never wait until roads are flooded or conditions become dangerous to ask for assistance.

Remember, the danger doesn’t necessarily end when the storm passes. Floodwater, damaged fencing, displaced wildlife and contaminated ground can remain hazardous long after the skies clear.

Our dogs depend on us to make safe decisions, even when that means shorter potty breaks, less outdoor play and a few days of indoor downtime.

Prepare early. Keep them close. Stay out of floodwater. And never leave your pets behind. ❤️🐾

Curious Events Day

🔎 If there were ever a holiday made for Weimaraners, Curious Events Day might be it.

Because a Weim doesn’t simply notice something unusual.

A Weim must investigate.

Immediately.

That strange noise upstairs?

Investigate.

A grocery bag sitting somewhere new?

Investigate.

A cabinet door left slightly open?

Definitely investigate.

You moved a chair six inches?

This situation requires a complete inspection. 😂

Weimaraners are intelligent, observant, active dogs—and their curiosity is part of what makes living with them so entertaining.

Of course, it also means Weim owners quickly learn that silence can be suspicious.

Very suspicious. 👀
