Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue

Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue TWR is a foster-based rescue in North Carolina dedicated to giving Weimaraners a fresh start.

We take in both shelter dogs and owner surrenders, provide full veterinary care, and prepare them for their new beginnings across NC and surrounding states.

🎳🐾 On U.S. Bowling League Day, we have one important question:

Are you ready to roll for rescue?

Saving Weimaraners is a team sport. Some volunteers foster. Some transport dogs. Some organize records, answer messages, help at events, update information, raise funds, or make sure the next important task does not get dropped.

You do not have to do everything. The strongest teams are built when each person takes one lane, learns the role, and keeps showing up.

Your time, organization, driving skills, creativity, or dog experience could be exactly what our volunteer team needs—and every task completed gives us more capacity to help the next Weim.

Let’s knock down some rescue needs together. Who is ready to join the team? 💙

💙 National Live Fearless Day is not about pretending fear does not exist.

For a rescue dog, living fearless may begin with something beautifully small: eating a full meal, resting without watching the door, choosing to approach a kind hand, or finally falling asleep with all four paws in the air.

Confidence grows through safety, predictable routines, patience, and positive experiences. That is where foster homes become so powerful. A foster gives a dog room to decompress and lets us learn who that dog truly is outside the stress of transition.

You do not have to be a professional trainer or have a perfect house. You need compassion, consistency, and a willingness to let progress happen one brave step at a time.

Could your home be the quiet place where a Weim begins to feel safe again? 🏡🐾

Four puppies. Four forever homes. Four very happy little Weimaraners. 💙

When our three-year-old heartworm-positive boy, Foster C**t, came into Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue, he wasn’t the only one who came to us from that same home. Along with C**t came four little 12-week-old Weimaraner puppies: Barrett, Wesson, Remi, and Kimber.

Per our rescue’s adoption process, when dogs come into our care, we first turn to our approved adoption wait list before opening their availability to the public on social media. And in this case, we didn’t have to look very far! All four of these babies quickly found wonderful families through our wait list.

One by one, they have officially packed their tiny imaginary suitcases, said goodbye to C**t and Vicki’s house, and headed off to begin their lives with their forever families. And JUST LOOK AT THESE HAPPY PUPPIES. ❤️

Rather than make four separate posts, we decided these little littermates deserved one big send-off together. We’ll share individual updates as everyone settles in and we start hearing about all their new adventures.

These four were an absolute JOY to have in rescue. Seriously, we could not have asked for a better group of puppies. They came to us already doing wonderfully with potty training, they were crate trained, and we had literally zero issues from them. Just four sweet, happy, ridiculously lovable little babies who made it very easy to fall in love with them.

Congratulations to the families who welcomed Barrett, Wesson, Remi, and Kimber into their homes! We hope you enjoy every puppy kiss, every ridiculous Weimaraner sleeping position, every growth spurt, and every adventure still to come.

It was a pleasure getting these babies safely from where they started to where they belong.

Now comes our favorite part: watching them grow up. 💙🐾

🧡🐈 Happy Ginger Cat Appreciation Day—from the Grey Ghost side of the house!

Dogs and cats can become wonderful companions, but good relationships usually begin with patience—not a rushed nose-to-nose introduction.

If you are bringing a new dog into a home with a cat:

🐾 Start with a secure gate or barrier between them.
🐾 Reward calm behavior on both sides.
🐾 Keep early meetings short and supervised.
🐾 Give the cat a safe room and easy escape routes.
🐾 Slow down if either animal shows fear, fixation, or stress.

Every dog and cat is an individual. Some become nap buddies; others are happiest with respectful space. The goal is not instant friendship—it is a safe home where everyone can relax.

Do you share your home with a Weim and a cat? Tell us who really runs the house. 😄

💘🐾 Happy National Matchmaker Day!

In rescue, finding “the one” is about much more than falling for a beautiful silver face.

Every Weimaraner has an individual personality, energy level, history, and set of needs. Every prospective family has a different home, routine, experience level, and vision for life with a dog. A successful adoption happens when those pieces truly fit.

That is why Tarheel Weimaraner Rescue takes time to learn about both the dog and the applicant. Our goal is not simply to find the first available home—it is to make a thoughtful match that can become the dog’s best and last home. 💙

Sometimes the perfect match is a young adventure partner. Sometimes it is a gentle senior who wants the quiet side of the couch. And sometimes the dog you did not initially picture turns out to be exactly the companion your family needed.

What made you realize your dog was the perfect match?

Today, C**t discovered something that most dogs probably never think twice about: soft, plush green grass. 💚

For the first time since coming into rescue, C**t decided to throw himself down and have a good old-fashioned roll in the grass. And once he started, he REALLY committed. Legs in the air, twisting from side to side, rubbing his back into the lawn and soaking up every glorious inch of it.

Considering C**t came from a life where dirt and gravel were what he knew beneath his feet, I think he has officially decided that this whole green-grass situation is a MAJOR upgrade.

But what made these pictures even sweeter was seeing him expose his belly to us for the first time. For a dog who arrived so terrified of people and the world around him, lying completely on his back with his belly exposed is a beautiful little glimpse of a dog beginning to feel safe enough to be vulnerable.

These are the moments in rescue that may look small from the outside but feel enormous to us.

C**t had his first grass roll today. 🌱 And judging by the performance, I don’t think it will be his last.

Keep rolling, sweet boy. There are so many soft places in this world you haven’t discovered yet. 💚

Sunday, August 30 — National Beach Day

🏖️🐾 Sun. Sand. Waves. And approximately 47 wet paw prints in your car afterward.

Sounds like a pretty great day to us.

Today is National Beach Day, and for many dogs, a trip to the water is one giant adventure.

There are waves to chase.

Sand to dig.

Interesting smells everywhere.

And absolutely no understanding of why humans keep saying:

“PLEASE STOP SHAKING WATER ON ME.” 😂

If your dog joins you for a beach adventure, remember the basics:

💧 Bring plenty of fresh drinking water.
🌤️ Provide breaks from the heat and sun.
🐾 Watch for hot sand on sensitive paws.
🌊 Keep an eye on waves and currents.
🦮 Follow local leash and dog-access rules.

Whether your perfect Sunday is spent at the beach, on the trail, or curled up together on the couch, life is usually better when there’s a dog beside you.

Especially a Weimaraner. 💙

Saturday, August 29 — National Sport Sampling Day

🐕💨 If Weimaraners wrote their own résumé, “professional athlete” would probably be near the top.

Running?

Absolutely.

Hiking?

Grab the leash.

Swimming?

Probably.

Fetching?

Again.
Again.
Again.
Again.

😆

Today is National Sport Sampling Day, which encourages people to get out and try something new—and if you happen to have an energetic Weimaraner beside you, you already have the perfect adventure partner.

Weims are active, intelligent dogs that often thrive when they get opportunities to exercise both their bodies and their brains.

Try something new together:

🥾 Hiking
🎾 Fetch
💦 Swimming
🐾 Agility
🥏 Disc games
🚶 A brand-new walking trail

Finding the right activity can be just as much fun for the dog as it is for the human.

And sometimes the greatest adventure of all starts when someone decides to adopt a rescue dog.

💙 Your next adventure partner might be waiting for you.
