FUN FACT FRIDAY
The Halloween Turnip?

Did you know that before pumpkins became a Halloween staple, people in Ireland carved faces into turnips to create lanterns?

When Irish immigrants brought this tradition to America, they discovered that pumpkins were more plentiful and easier to carve, giving us the beloved Jack-o’-lantern we know today!

Wishing everyone a safe and happy Halloween from the William Harris Homestead Museum & Education Center!

****WEATHER UPDATE ****

The Vintage Markets of Monroe’s Fall Market is CLOSED today, Sunday, October 4th.

After reviewing yesterday’s weather predictions, the event organizer and vendors made the difficult decision to close early rather than take the risk. While we’re disappointed not to welcome you today, the safety of our vendors, visitors, and the historic Homestead will always come first.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and truly appreciate your understanding and support.
