Sleep and bedtime difficulties are common in early childhood, with studies suggesting that about 1 in 4 to 1 in 3 young children experience behavioral sleep challenges such as bedtime resistance, difficulty falling asleep, or night waking.

Yesterday, 15 parents joined us for a support group on children’s bedtime routines and challenges. We talked through simple strategies like routines and bedtime passes to help with common bedtime struggles.

These groups are a space for parents to talk through challenges and learn from each other.

Family Service Center Feature

We're proud to offer breastfeeding support groups in Bay Minette to provide encouragement, guidance, and support for mothers in the early months of feeding and caring for their babies.

The Milkie Way Café is a small-group session led by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Mothers can receive breastfeeding support, have baby weight checks, and ask questions in a relaxed group setting.
Breastfeeding support hosted by Scotty Thomson, RN, BSN, IBCLC of Gulf Coast Lactation.

We have 4 sessions scheduled so mothers have multiple opportunities to attend. Reserve a Spot: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/PMBVSWM

Upcoming Session:
Thursday, May 21
10:00 AM – 11:30 AM

RSVP is required to attend. If you are not currently a Bay Minette Family Services client, we will conduct an intake with you before this session.

As we close out National Home Visiting Week, we’re featuring Kingston and his mom, who are enrolled in our Parents as Teachers home visiting program. Kingston has an incredible smile and a bright future ahead of him.

His mom shared this reflection:

“Home visiting has been such a blessing for me & my family. Janie helps make sure my son Kingston's growth and development stays on track. I love that I get helpful resources and information for anything I may be going through.

It means a lot to have someone I can talk and vent to on the days when I'm not feeling my best self or just need reassurance. Having that kind of support makes this journey feel a lot less overwhelming. I'm truly grateful for the care and guidance I receive. I truly appreciate having someone who checks in, listens, and helps me feel better as a mother. It means a lot knowing we're not alone on this journey.”

National Home Visiting Week is April 20–24!

This week, we’re celebrating the valued home visiting professionals who keep our HIPPY and PAT programs moving forward each day. 💙

These professionals support families within their homes, providing guidance, resources, and encouragement. It takes care and commitment to do this, and our team brings both to their work each day.

This week we’ll be sharing the importance of our team and their accomplishments. Stay tuned as we celebrate the people behind the work!

We’re halfway through National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

For us, this month is more than awareness. It's a reminder of why we were founded. Year-round, our work is grounded in preventing child abuse and neglect in Southwest Alabama. Our work shows up in many ways, including parenting chats, home visits, support groups, behavior classes, and resource connections. Families can also access basic supports like diapers, formula, and counseling referrals through our Family Service Centers. Each service is intentional and helps strengthen families and reduce risk.

To close out “Week of Action,” we’re sharing a resource carousel highlighting our role in prevention.
