The Mitchell Animal Rescue Site The City of Mitchell owns the pound, a vet clinic manages the pound, and we RESCUE FROM the pound.

We have rescued 100's of cats and dogs from the pound, which is NOT a no kill shelter. Per City policy, Owners have 3 business days to claim their pets. If not claimed, they go up for adoption and have 2 business days to get adopted from the pound. If they are not adopted from the pound, we adopt the animals, at our own expense, and place them into foster care. To prevent an animal from being euthanized at the pound, we advertise their arrival in an attempt to help locate the owner AND advertise when the animal is available for adoption through the pound. We do not have a facility and have very few foster homes; therefore, we are always seeking new fosters, especially cat fosters. If we do not have enough foster homes, we try to find another rescue/shelter that has room.

This very large scared cat just arrived at the pound and was hiding in the litter pan at the back of the kennel so we did not try to pull it out. It was picked up on Weds at 600 W 1st on Weds 10/14. This black and white tux was picked up on Weds 10/14 at 1025 W Cedar. It is not happy about being in the pound and wants to go home. Two older kittens were brought in together from 915 N. Capital Street on Monday, September 28. They were a little stressed but purred when petted and seemed very sweet. If these babies are yours, please claim them by calling the Mitchell PD at 605-995-8400. If they aren't claimed by Friday, October 2 they will be up for adoption from Lakeview Clinic. This friendly cat was found a the city pound Saturday morning and has kittens somewhere, but alone when found. Did anyone make a dump run this morning and the cat accidentally came along for the ride? She does have mastitis so are treating her with antibiotics.
