Saul Padek bought and sold companies. Sometimes as an individual. Sometimes via Thompson Boat. Sometimes vis one of his other businesses. He was a corporate raider, buying companies on the verge of bankruptcy or already closed for pennies on the dollar. He would typically liquidate assets and move on.

Starting after WW II, circa 1946, Thompson Bros Boat Mfg Co began using a HULL ID stamped into the wood of the transom inside the boat. It was a series of numbers and possibly some letters. Boats built prior to circa 1946 did not have any type of ID on them. In the middle of the 1957 model year, they also began using a SERIAL NO. on the metal builders tag. SERIAL NO. and HULL ID are different on Peshtigo built boats. Why? No one knows. The big red tag in the photo is the capacity ratings from the Outboard Boating Club (OBC), another post WW II addition.
