Red Eye Theater Red Eye is a multidisciplinary creative laboratory that supports the development and production of boundary-breaking performance work.

Red Eye is a vital artistic lab that supports the rigorous artistic inquiry of Minnesota artists from a broad spectrum of experiences and expression. Artist-run and intentionally modest in size, Red Eye encourages experimentation, foregrounds process, and is advocating for systemic change for the contemporary performance community in the Twin Cities.

Allie Hankins brings to Red Eye “By My Own Hand, Part 5: INVISIBILE TOUCH” — the final installment of a five-part performance series which qu**rs notions of autobiography and self-reflection. INVISIBLE TOUCH is a quintet featuring Linda Austin, claire barrera, keyon gaskin (Portland), Lu Yim (Brooklyn), and Takahiro Yamamoto (Boston). The performers populate the space with light, shadow, haunted objects, dancing, and songs. Through the slippery processes of deconstruction, distillation, resurrection, and re-membering, INVISIBLE TOUCH reveals an aftermath of contending methods of makers and shared histories of friends and colleagues, and confronts notions of finality, authorship, and perception of self.

Classss with Kenna Do you know the difference between a DJ, an MC and a Sound System? Come to class with Kenna and get hands-on experience with all three. We will set up, select, create, perform and respond. Inclusive Black Space! All are welcome! Will this be a dance class? Somewhat.

The Forgotten Shaman
Art, Healing & the Creative Life
What if the artist and the healer were never meant to be separate?

The Forgotten Shaman is a space to reconnect with the innate wisdom, intuition, and creative compass within you.
Drawing from Michelle Boulé’s ongoing research into the intersections of shamanic traditions, light work, embodiment, healing, and creativity, this two-hour workshop will weave together conversation, energy healing, and movement practices.
We’ll explore what’s possible when we remember that creativity is not simply something we produce, but a force we live with… one that can connect us more deeply to our bodies, intuition, imagination, healing, and the mystery of life.
This is an invitation to listen, experiment, move, and play. Participants will be guided to explore the artist, healer, and “magician” within themselves, and the intelligence that already exists beneath the noise of everyday life.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS 2027

Works-in-Progress is a cohort-based container for creative process, peer exchange, and public sharing of live performance work. Each year, Red Eye assembles artists who wish to engage in dialogue around their creative process. These artists form a temporary community of practice with varied backgrounds, aesthetics, and approaches to performance, united by shared commitment to questioning artistic form and challenging dominant culture.

This cohort is intentionally composed to strengthen community relationships, bringing together artists with balanced perspectives and shared, parallel, or adjacent interests. Process is non-linear and takes many shapes—“work-in-progress” means different things to different artists. The program invites artists to hold their process open and experiment with public sharing.

Each artist presents 10-15 minutes during a shared evening in the first weekend of the Red Eye Festival. Works-in-Progress has been part of Red Eye’s programming since 1983.

Since 2025, Festival Producers - have been involved in stewarding the program and locating it deeper in community. This creates more perspectives, mentorship, co-learning and support within the structure. Festival Producers have responsibilities ranging from scheduling, running cohort meetings, coordination, box office, marketing, and relationship building. This year, Festival Producers are Lelis Brito and Marcela Michelle. Both are MN community leaders and are alumni of the program.

Please Apply! Please also spread the word to artists in your network, in the field of performance, particularly multi-disciplinary, disabled, BIPOC, Q***r, Trans identified artists who are currently engaged in a creative process and are seeking a supportive cohort and community for their performance work! Participants must be able to attend all cohort meeting dates and times.
