In just one week, our HE Builds & SHE Builds Summer Programs begin! 🎉

We're excited to welcome youth from across the Twin Cities for a summer filled with leadership development, financial literacy, career exploration, life skills, mentorship, and fun.

Over the next 9 weeks, participants will build confidence, set goals, learn how money works, explore future career pathways, and develop the skills needed to succeed in life.

This past April, Demitri led a housing and homeownership workshop at Hopkins High School. This thank-you note from a student shows the power of financial education and the impact it can have on young people's futures.

When students understand concepts like equity, homeownership, and wealth-building, they're better equipped to make informed decisions for years to come.
We're grateful for opportunities to educate, inspire, and help the next generation build wealth.

We need your help supporting Minneapolis youth this summer.

Over the past few weeks, 5 young people have had to withdraw from our summer program because their families could not afford the $150 program fee, which breaks down to just $8 per day. We have also received scholarship requests from 2 families and payment plan requests from 6 additional families who are working hard to make participation possible.

The program fee helps cover essential costs, including daily meals for participants, transportation for a college campus visit, and educational enrichment experiences that broaden our youth's horizons. Our goal is to ensure every young person who wants to participate has the opportunity to do so, regardless of financial circumstances.

We are committed to investing in Minneapolis youth, but we cannot do it alone.

If you are able, please consider making a donation. Every contribution (no matter the size) makes a direct impact and helps remove barriers for young people who want to be part of this experience.

✨ Meet the Team Supporting Our Youth This Summer! ✨

As we prepare for our HE Builds and SHE Builds summer programs, we want to introduce the leaders who will be guiding, mentoring, and empowering youth throughout the summer.

🌸 Tyra Blazek – SHE Builds Facilitator

Tyra brings over 10 years of experience working with youth and is passionate about helping young people build confidence, leadership skills, and a strong sense of self. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Management from Minnesota State University, Mankato, and is also a business owner, mother, homeowner, and licensed esthetician with advanced esthetics training. Her diverse experiences allow her to connect with youth in meaningful ways while encouraging them to dream big, discover their strengths, and pursue their goals.

💙 Dr. Demitri McGee – HE Builds Facilitator

Dr. McGee is a youth mentor, curriculum developer, and HUD-certified housing counselor, father, and homeowner who has dedicated his career to empowering youth and families through education, leadership development, and community engagement. He attended Clark Atlanta University before earning both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the University of Minnesota, and later completed his doctoral degree.

As the creator of Build Wealth MN's Youth Stabilization Program curriculum and Rent Smart Wise curriculum, Dr. McGee brings years of experience mentoring young people through Kappa League and other community-based programs. Through his work, he helps youth and families develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to thrive.

Together, Tyra and Dr. McGee are excited to support youth this summer through leadership development, financial empowerment, life skills, goal setting, self-reflection, and meaningful mentorship.

When school is out, young people still need safe spaces, positive role models, and opportunities to grow. That's why summer programming is so important.

In this video, youth and educators from Camden High School share their perspectives on how summer programs provide structure, mentorship, meaningful experiences, and a supportive community for young people. These opportunities help youth stay engaged, build confidence, develop leadership skills, and create positive pathways for their future.

At Build Wealth MN, we believe every young person deserves access to programs that invest in their success, not just during the school year, but all year long.
