Saturday was one of those days that reminds you what Scouting is all about.

The Scouts of Troop 624 put the principles of the Scout Law into action by being Helpful, Kind, Cheerful, and Reverent. We spent the day serving the Mammoth Cave community by caring for the cemeteries at Good Spring Baptist Church and Mammoth Cave Baptist Church, helping honor the families whose loved ones are laid to rest there. The troop also cleaned the side of Good Spring Baptist Church and cut a trail leading into the Bransford Family Cemetery, making it more accessible for family and future visitors.

Service projects like these may not always be the most glamorous, but they teach an important lesson: we have a responsibility to care for the places and people that came before us. It was a day of hard work, teamwork, and giving back.

After a full day of service, the adults treated the Scouts to a well-earned dinner featuring caramelized onion provolone cheeseburgers on brioche buns, followed by dutch oven double-fudge cherry brownies that disappeared as quickly as they came out of the oven.

We wrapped up the evening with board games, plenty of laughs, and some healthy competition. And yes… for those wondering… Scoutmaster Matt once again demonstrated his elite board game skills. 👊🏼😎

Proud of these young men and the way they continue to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law both in and out of uniform.

Proud to have served the community at Mammoth Cave National Park!

A scout is “flexible”… that’s what we had to be as we moved to Plan C for our backpacking trip… a fantastic little adventure in Pisgah National Forest.

We explored the Daniel Ridge area and got to explore some new areas of the forest we haven’t seen before. The boys worked hard on knots, lashings, and got some real life experience on why you shouldn’t tie your bear bag to a tree with poison oak on it.

…and Yes! Richard the chicken made it on this backpacking trip!

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:13

Today is not just a day off from work. It’s not about having a cookout with family. It’s not the start to summer. It’s a day of remembrance. Today, we remember those men and women that fought and died for our country. They sacrificed their lives so that we could have the freedoms that we enjoy in this country today.

We pray for the family they left behind. We pray for their comrades in arms that carry their memory with them to this day. Freedom isn’t free. It always costs someone something.

Couldn’t be more proud of this young man. Kullen officially passed his Eagle Board of Review tonight! 🦅⚜️

He’s been a standout Scout in 6️⃣2️⃣4️⃣, and there’s no doubt he’s headed for great things ahead.

And how about Mr. Chris showing up in style—repping the Pack T-shirt and that iconic Hawaiian Philmont shirt from one of their last big adventures together. Beginning to end, what a journey it’s been.

Well done, sir!
