Saturday was one of those days that reminds you what Scouting is all about.
The Scouts of Troop 624 put the principles of the Scout Law into action by being Helpful, Kind, Cheerful, and Reverent. We spent the day serving the Mammoth Cave community by caring for the cemeteries at Good Spring Baptist Church and Mammoth Cave Baptist Church, helping honor the families whose loved ones are laid to rest there. The troop also cleaned the side of Good Spring Baptist Church and cut a trail leading into the Bransford Family Cemetery, making it more accessible for family and future visitors.
Service projects like these may not always be the most glamorous, but they teach an important lesson: we have a responsibility to care for the places and people that came before us. It was a day of hard work, teamwork, and giving back.
After a full day of service, the adults treated the Scouts to a well-earned dinner featuring caramelized onion provolone cheeseburgers on brioche buns, followed by dutch oven double-fudge cherry brownies that disappeared as quickly as they came out of the oven.
We wrapped up the evening with board games, plenty of laughs, and some healthy competition. And yes… for those wondering… Scoutmaster Matt once again demonstrated his elite board game skills. 👊🏼😎
Proud of these young men and the way they continue to live the Scout Oath and Scout Law both in and out of uniform.
Proud to have served the community at Mammoth Cave National Park!
