2026 Beekeeping 101 Workshop 🐝🍯

A spectacular fall day spent learning about honeybee biology, colony structure & health, essential beekeeping equipment, and sharing what makes the VHF Beek Squad so special!

Led by VHF Lead Beekeeper & Coast Guard Veteran, Michael Morano. Participants spent the morning in the classroom listening to various lectures on bees and pollinators. Then had a delicious lunch highlighting honey in various culinary preparations, crafted by Beek Squad member Helene. And in the afternoon, participants made their way into the apiary, getting hands on experience tending honeybees 🐝🐝🐝

Beekeeping 101 is always a special & delicious day here on the farm. Many, many thanks to Michael, the Bee Team, and Helene for their continued dedication to the hives and VHF 💛💛💛

Farm dog Murph wants everyone to know we still have some seats left for our annual Vets for Vets day 🐶🦮🐩🐕

This Saturday, Oct. 24th 9-1pm
Pinnacle Animal Hospital will be at the farm providing heartworm tests, vaccinations, heartworm prevention, flea & tick prevention, and general veterinary services for FREE to veterans.

Please join us if you have a pup needing free veterinary services, free medicine, and lots of extra love & treats 🐶🐶🐶🐶

2026 was a wonderful year as we found new rhythms here on the farm. We offered new and cherished workshops, brought exciting events to life, and ushered in a year of growth.

Out of abundance of caution. Veterans Healing Farm will be closed Saturday, October 10th. Both Pottery and Sourdough classes have been cancelled.

GE Aerospace spent the afternoon on the farm mulching, planting perennials, moving compost, and giving the apiary pollinator gardens some extra love 🐝🍯

They also enjoyed breaks with the golden retriever puppies visiting the farm with Appalachain Dog Training LLC

We have to say, they may take the cake for best farm photo of the year 👀🐶🐾

A glimpse into a week at VHF 🌿

Herb Squad processing Wild Dagga, an herb known for its anti-inflammatory properties, pain relief, and wound healing abilities.

Director of Plant Medicine, Rebecca Vann smelling fresh Anise Hyssop, an integral plant in many tea blends at the farm, and an herb known for its licorice scent and flavor.

Veritas Academy resting for a moment in the shade after a successful volunteer day 🪏Veritas students weeded fall beds and helped improve perennial herb beds. Laying down landscape fabric and planting new herbs 🌿

Executive Director, Al Yeck and Chief of Maintenance, Brendan Jenness both spent some time in the pottery studio learning new skills 🎨

Outward Bound volunteers helped the garden crew clean up for fall and dig the last round of potatoes! Giving farm dog Murphy some extra love in between garden tasks 🐶

And the week finished out with a Soap Making workshop with longtime farm volunteer Grace. Participants used farm grown herbs and other fun ingredients to make their very own soaps.
