Music can help children rediscover joy, hope, and a sense of belonging after displacement.
This August, Music Heals International and CORE gave 16 displaced children the opportunity to participate in the 2026 Plezi Mizik Summer Camp—an annual music camp held in the Delmas 32 neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. By providing transportation throughout the month, we made it possible for these children to take part in this unforgettable experience.
The children learned music, explored crafts such as macramé, played and connected with others, and received a nutritious meal each day. Most importantly, they had a safe and joyful space where they could simply be children.
For children forced to leave their homes because of violence and insecurity, displacement can bring fear, stress, and experiences that deeply affect their emotional well-being. Safe recreational and creative activities offer them a vital space to express themselves, build connections, regain confidence, and experience moments of joy.
On Sunday, September 13, that joy came alive during a community concert at an internally displaced persons (IDP) site in Delmas 33. The children performed for their parents, friends, and fellow community members—playing, singing, and dancing as they proudly showcased everything they had learned.
For the children, it was a moment to shine. For their parents, it was a moment of pride. And for the community, it was a powerful reminder that even in the most difficult circumstances, every child deserves the opportunity to learn, create, play, and hope. ❤️
With the support and dedication of MHI, CORE and the Plezi Mizik team, music is creating spaces where displaced children can reconnect with joy, strengthen their confidence, and look toward tomorrow with renewed hope.
Giving a child the space to play, learn, and be heard is also giving them a reason to hope.
