The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) announced on Tuesday that more than $41 million in new funding is available to expand the state’s electric vehicle (EV) charging network.

The push for more charging stations comes as EV ownership in Minnesota has skyrocketed. According to MnDOT, the number of registered electric vehicles in the state grew by 1,000 percent in less than a decade—surging from about 9,000 vehicles in 2018 to 90,000 today.

The North Dakota Public Service Commission approved the siting application for the Longspur Wind project, owned by Minnesota Power, which seeks to build up to 45 wind turbines and a two-and-a-half-mile power line on about 26,000 acres in Morton County.
