Dear Scouting Unit Leaders,
I am writing on behalf of the Connecticut Yankee Council NYLT staff to share an initiative we are launching for our council’s Scouts.
Our goal is to update and improve the NYLT songbook that Scouts receive during their course, thereby creating a collection that better reflects the voices, traditions, and experiences of Scouts across our council.
To make this songbook as meaningful and representative as possible, we are asking for your help. We are currently collecting submissions of:
• Favorite Scout songs used in your unit
• Songs commonly sung at campouts, campfires, and other Scouting events
• Graces regularly used by your unit
Your submissions will directly shape what Scouts learn and sing at NYLT courses across the council.
The submission window will remain open until June 24th, 2026. We encourage every unit to submit at least one song or grace. If you are willing to contribute, please fill out this short form with your favorites:
https://forms.gle/k4fCGVrneAxVJdn38
Please feel free to share this form with your Scouts as well as we welcome their input and would love to include their voices in this effort. (Examples: “Scout Vespers,” “Country Roads,” mealtime graces, etc.)
Important: Please submit one song or grace per submission to help us stay organized. Feel free to submit multiple times if you have more than one contribution.
This effort will also be supported by Kindling Enthusiasm, a YouTube channel dedicated to building the enthusiasm and confidence of leaders, Scouts, and families to join in song. Through this partnership, Scouts and leaders will be able to learn how songs are sung, helping preserve and strengthen Scouting culture across our units.
Additionally, if anyone is interested in helping us organize, review, or compile this updated songbook, we would love to have your involvement.
For more resources and to explore song examples, visit Kindling Enthusiasm: https://www.youtube.com/
Thank you for all you do for Scouting and for helping us strengthen a shared resource that benefits Scouts across our entire council.
Yours in Scouting,
Merlyn Neunteufel
