Built in 1896 on the former site of Milan’s historic Babcock Hotel, the Moore & Minto Building has stood at the heart of Downtown Milan for over 130 years. The original hotel was famously sawed in half around 1895, with both sections still standing elsewhere in town today. Originally constructed as a bank, the building soon became home to a longtime men’s clothing store operated by Sears Blackmer and George Minto — members of one of Milan’s most influential early business families.

Over the decades, the building has housed antiques, hardware, doctor’s offices, and today serves as a space for counseling, acupuncture, art, and upstairs apartments. Many of its original features remain intact, including the brick exterior, tin ceilings, loft loading door, and remarkable stone basement. Even the iconic “Moore & Minto” painted sign has watched over Main Street for more than 80 years, making the building one of Downtown Milan’s most recognizable historic landmarks.
