This was a little shorter trip to Blade than normal, but we have the great privilege traveling with Jay and Nancy Hendrickson. I hope I can remember the stories and details, this is what oral history is all about.
Some of you know that in addition to being on the Moran Board I’m also on The American Bladesmith Societies Board. Last evening was our awards ceremony where the JS & MS stamps are handed out as well as some other special recognition in different areas. I was very humbled to receive the Distinguished Service Award from the ABS for 2026.
Debbie and I were also the guest of Jay & Nancy at the Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall of Fame breakfast. Nothing like “running shoulders” with the “Who’s Who”

Good Morning from Mt. Airy, NC.
Debbie and I are on our way to the Atlanta Bladeshow. We have the honor and privilege to be the traveling companions of Jay and Nancy Hendrickson. It’s only been a day together but we have had such a great time together. Jay and Nancy have had such an incredibly interesting life and the stories they have are wonderful.
So much of what they have experienced has revolved around knives, makers and the shows they have been part of. From personal experiences with Bill Moran to shows in California. They have exhibited Jays knives in 126 shows all over the US and in Europe.
The adventures continues as our first stop is at our good friend and a great JS maker Randy Hicks. Randy and his wife Kim have a beautiful farm just outside of Mt. Airy near White Plains. Holly Hills Cabin is a destination is a place of relaxation and solitude. Jay and I will be going down to Randy’s forge before our next leg to Atlanta. Stay tuned for this adventure with some pictures and more stories.
