Today we celebrate what would have been Beckett's 9th Birthday. We are also extremely excited to introduce the newest member of then Hartner family, 🐾Ms. Dixie! 🐾❤️💙💚
Dixie is a 5-month-old Australian Labradoodle who has already stolen our hearts. She has the sweetest disposition, absolutely loves people, enjoys meeting new friends, and is happiest when she's snuggled up next to someone or with her humans. Those qualities make us even more excited as we begin the journey of training her to become a certified therapy dog—a journey that is deeply personal to our family.
When Beckett passed away, Stauffer Funeral home supported our family offered to have a therapy dog at the funeral home to comfort our family and more importantly, our girls. In the midst of unimaginable grief, that gentle presence brought peace, comfort, and love when we needed it most. It is something we will never forget.
Beckett had such a special love for animals, so finding a way to honor him by bringing that same comfort to others feels like a beautiful continuation of his legacy. It is our hope is that Dixie will serve families experiencing loss, children facing difficult circumstances, hospital patients, nursing home residents, and our first responders—especially firefighters—who often carry the weight of traumatic experiences while serving their communities. James Hartner is part of Frederick County Fire Department Peer support team and it is his hope to also utilize her training when supporting situations with the Frederick County Fire Department.
As the Beckett Memorial Fund continues to grow, one of its missions will be to help support Dixie's therapy dog training and certification so she can make the greatest impact possible. We also hope to host future fundraising events that will help cover her ongoing training and allow us to expand the ways we can give back in Beckett's honor.
Our vision is for Beckett's legacy to be one of compassion, comfort, and hope. Through Dixie, we hope to bring a little light into the lives of those who need it most—just as a therapy dog once did for our family.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the Beckett James Hartner Memorial Fund and has walked alongside our family through this journey. Your kindness is helping turn our grief into something that can bring healing to others.
Welcome to the family, Ms. Dixie. We can't wait to see the lives you'll touch. 🐾❤️💙💚🐾
