AJC Miami & Broward stands in solidarity with South Florida's Haitian community, whose leadership, culture, and contributions help make our region stronger. AJC reaffirms a core principle: nations can secure their borders responsibly while treating every person with dignity, fairness, and respect.

South Florida is home to one of the nation's largest Haitian communities, and many families are directly affected by TPS and immigration decisions. Haitian TPS holders have made vital contributions to our workforce, faith communities, and civic life, and their stability is important to the strength of our region.

We support humane, fact-based policies that address the root causes of migration, promote regional stability, and recognize the ongoing challenges facing Haiti. We reject rhetoric that stigmatizes immigrant communities or diminishes the realities that drive migration.

At this week’s staff meeting, we were delighted to welcome Johana Wiznitzer as AJC Miami and Broward’s new Assistant Director. Her passion for community building and Israel-Jewish advocacy will be a tremendous asset as our South Florida team continues to grow.

Johana joins AJC with a strong record of leadership across Jewish communal organizations, Israel engagement, and young-adult advocacy. She previously worked with the Greater Miami Jewish Federation’s Young Leadership Division, where her Latin-Jewish background and authentic voice helped broaden community reach and deepen engagement. She has also worked closely with Hillels across the Southeast region, building meaningful relationships with students, professionals, and community members.

As Assistant Director, Johana will help lead AJC’s advocacy initiatives, partner engagement, and programs across South Florida. We’re excited to have her on the team and look forward to her working with the broader South Florida community.

AJC Miami and Broward was honored to join the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the Latin American Task Force, and our community partners for the 32nd Commemoration of the AMIA Jewish Community Center Bombing in Argentina.

Together, we honored the memory of the 85 victims, reaffirmed our commitment to combating antisemitism, and stood united against hatred.

We were privileged to hear inspiring remarks from Consul General of Argentina Martín Romero, Consul General of Israel Zuri Siso, Dr. Osvaldo Armoza, President of AMIA, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, and many other distinguished community leaders and public officials.

AJC Miami and Broward was proud to be represented by Regional Director Brian Siegal, Senior Associate of Young Leadership Maia Kofman, Development & Events Coordinator Joy Zamzelig, and former colleague Michael Winograd, who joined fellow community leaders in this meaningful evening of remembrance and solidarity.

Thank you to the Latin American Task Force for its leadership in organizing this important commemoration and to all who came together to honor the victims and reaffirm our shared commitment to justice, resilience, and unity.

On July 10, 1941, hundreds of Jews were murdered in the town of Jedwabne, a massacre that remains one of the darkest chapters in the history of the Holocaust in Poland.

For the past two years, far-right activists sought to disrupt the annual commemoration by promoting a false version of history and spreading antisemitic tropes that dishonor the victims and undermine the truth.

Join Abraham Waserstein, grandson of Shmuel Waserstein, one of the few Jewish survivors of the Jedwabne pogrom, together with AJC Central Europe Director Agnieszka Markiewicz and Chief Rabbi of Poland Michael Schudrich, for a conversation about this year's commemoration, the legacy of Jedwabne, and the urgent need to confront Holocaust distortion and antisemitism.

An unforgettable evening cheering on the Samurai Blue! ⚽️

ACCESS Miami was honored to welcome Deputy Consul General Mizuuchi Kentaro of Japan as we gathered to watch Japan take on Sweden in the FIFA World Cup. Through the universal language of soccer, we celebrated friendship, strengthened relationships, and deepened the ties between our communities.

One of the evening’s highlights was sharing a piece of Jewish culture by presenting Deputy Consul General Mizuuchi with a traditional chocolate babka—a sweet reminder that cultural exchange is often best experienced around food, conversation, and community.

Yesterday morning, AJC Miami and Broward was honored to bring together a distinguished group of lay leaders for an intimate and meaningful conversation hosted by longtime AJC Miami Board Member Stewart Merkin.

Lord John Mann, the United Kingdom Government's Independent Adviser on Antisemitism, joined AJC Miami and Broward Regional Director Brian Siegal for a timely discussion on the global rise of antisemitism, the importance of international cooperation, and the strategies needed to confront hate while strengthening Jewish communities around the world.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Lord John Mann for sharing his invaluable expertise and leadership, to Brian Siegal for guiding such an engaging conversation, and to Stewart Merkin for graciously hosting this special gathering. Thank you to all who joined us and contributed to this thoughtful and impactful discussion. This week, Mike Teichberg, AJC Miami and Broward Deputy Regional Director, had the privilege of attending the final session of the University of Miami Holocaust Education Teacher Institute Summit, a powerful conclusion to this year's three-day program.

For 25 years, this Institute has played a vital role in equipping educators with the tools, knowledge, and confidence to teach the Holocaust with accuracy, depth, and humanity. At a time of rising antisemitism and increasing historical distortion, this work has never been more important.

Congratulations to Dr. Miriam Klein Kassenoff, whose vision and leadership as the Institute's Founding Director have shaped this extraordinary program for a quarter century. Special recognition as well to Stephanie Rosen and Julie Katz Paresky, co-founders of 3G Miami and this year's chairpersons; Helen Chaset, who led a moving session connecting teachers with Holocaust survivors; and the dedicated team behind the Institute's success: Alissa Stein, Kathy Pham, and Cody Engstrom.

The closing sessions explored how the humanities illuminate the human story of the Holocaust and provided educators with the opportunity to engage directly with survivors and second- and third-generation descendants. Together, they served as a powerful reminder of why Holocaust education matters. Preserving memory, combating misinformation, and fostering critical thinking are essential to building a more informed and compassionate society.

AJC is honored to stand alongside partners across Miami-Dade who are committed to education, remembrance, and the responsibility we all share to ensure that "Never Again" is not simply a phrase, but a practice.

Congratulations to Robert C. Gilbert, who was presented with AJC Miami and Broward’s prestigious Judge Learned Hand Award at a recent dinner attended by hundreds of friends, colleagues, and community leaders. See the full-page ad which appeared in the Miami Herald South Florida Album.

The Judge Learned Hand Award - AJC’s highest honor within the legal profession - recognizes a lifetime of achievement and an unwavering commitment to individual rights and democratic values. Bobby Gilbert’s distinguished legal career and steadfast dedication to the community exemplify the very spirit of this award.
