The Miami Bayside Foundation is a nonprofit organization designed to advance economic development in Miami through the support of minority businesses and education. In order to empower minority students the foundation has created scholarship endowments that will award hundreds of students with financial aid for years to come in Miami Dade College, Florida Internation University (FIU), and Florida

Memorial University (FMU). Another initiative is to provide easier access to funds for minority entrepreneurs. The Foundation offers and administers a loan program that provides loans to minority businesses in the City of Miami. In addition to its loan program, the Miami Bayside Foundation provides valuable business tools and resources such as counseling and training in business development and management and other related services, through partnerships with local community organizations engaged in economic development. MBF is proud to have graduated over 1,200 business owners from its Small Business Training program. Sponsored by The Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and HSBC Bank, this free virtual program provides small business owners with the tools and skills needed to grow their business, all while guiding them through the creation of their business plan.

At MBF, we encourage small business owners to strengthen their cybersecurity practices as online scams, AI-generated fraud, phishing attacks, and digital threats continue to evolve.

We spoke with Reginald Andre of ARK Solvers Cybersecurity, who shared five practical ways businesses can better protect their operations, customer information, and digital systems.

1. Verify Suspicious Emails and Messages: AI-generated scams are becoming more convincing. Always verify unexpected payment requests, invoices, links, or urgent messages before responding.

2. Use Multi-Factor Authentication: Adding a second layer of login protection helps secure business accounts, financial platforms, and customer information from unauthorized access.

3. Train Employees Regularly: Employees should know how to identify phishing emails, fake websites, suspicious attachments, and social engineering attempts.

4. Keep Systems and Software Updated: Outdated software creates vulnerabilities. Regular updates help protect your business from new cybersecurity threats and attacks.

5. Back Up Important Business Data: Maintain secure backups of financial records, customer files, contracts, and operational systems in case of ransomware or data loss.

Cybersecurity is no longer optional for small businesses. Strong security practices help protect operations, maintain customer trust, and reduce the risk of costly disruptions.

In addition to our loan and technical assistance programs, we are proud to provide valuable business tools and resources through partnerships with local community organizations engaged in economic development.

The Miami-Dade Chamber of Commerce has served as a leading advocate and economic-development partner for historically underserved businesses across South Florida since 1974. Through advocacy, strategic connections, technical assistance, training, and access to business opportunities, the Chamber helps entrepreneurs strengthen their operations, increase revenue, secure capital, pursue contracts, and create jobs.

The Chamber provides personalized, one-on-one business assessments and consultations tailored to each entrepreneur’s stage of growth. Today, we are proud to spotlight two recipients of the Pam Weller Scholarship as they begin their college journey. The Pam Weller Scholarship honors the legacy of Pam Weller, former Vice Chair of the Miami Bayside Foundation Board of Directors and longtime Bayside Marketplace Senior General Manager.

Congratulations to Arniesha Foster, who graduated from Miami Northwestern and who will attend Clark Atlanta University to pursue a degree in Biology and Miche-landy Augustin, who graduated from Edison Senior High School and who will attend Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University to pursue a degree in Political Science.

In 2026, MBF awarded scholarships to 28 City of Miami students who graduated from seven local high schools in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system. Each recipient will receive $1,000 a year up to four years to support their post-secondary education.

We wish them continued success as they begin this exciting new chapter.

Today we highlight Urban Impact Lab Inc. from our MBF Small Business Loan Program.

Over the past decade, Urban Impact Lab Inc. has been committed to turning complex urban challenges into solutions that build better cities. With a goal of driving positive change within Miami’s urban landscape, Urban Impact has led initiatives to improve transit, re-envision public spaces, strengthen our small business sector, and build more engaged communities.

MBF advances economic development in South Florida by providing support to minority-owned businesses and education. Through the MBF Small Business Loan Program, we have disbursed over $19.6 million in loans and aided in the creation of more than 500 jobs. MBF remains steadfast in its commitment to offer minority-owned businesses access to capital.

Today, we are proud to shine a spotlight on Breakthrough Miami, an extraordinary organization we are honored to support. Through the MBF grant, we are teaming up to create a brighter future for motivated, under-resourced students in Miami.

Breakthrough Miami provides an academic enrichment program that uses a students-teaching-students model to ensure motivated, under-resourced middle school students have access to excellent high school opportunities, graduate from high school on time, and attend college. Additionally, through the Breakthrough Miami Young Entrepreneurs program, Breakthrough will deliver the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship curriculum to 8th-grade scholars.

Breakthrough Miami's impact is far-reaching, with comprehensive initiatives that empower young minds. During the summer, students engage in a six-week BreakthroughU Summer Institute, exploring the foundations of entrepreneurship, building their entrepreneurial mindsets, working in teams, and developing their own business plans as part of their summer experience. As a culmination of their summer entrepreneurship experience, scholar teams compete towards a final pitch competition with a panel of judges. The top six teams are selected to present in the final judged competition.
