South Florida's Voice of Conservation. Tropical Audubon Society has been leading South Florida bird walks, championing wildlife, protecting Biscayne Bay and the Everglades since our 1947 founding, with our roots dating back even earlier. As the official local chapter of National Audubon, we are among Miami’s most esteemed non-profit environmental organizations. Known as “South Florida’s Voice of Conservation,” we’ve been on the frontlines of environmental protection for decades — standing strong against contamination of our drinking water, defending the Urban Development Boundary, and advocating for the protection of Endangered Species and the preservation of our region’s Globally Critically Imperiled Pine Rockland habitat. Mission: Conserve and restore South Florida ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats. We welcome open dialogue and thoughtful discussion on our page. 🇪🇨 Calling all birders: Ecuador awaits! 🦜

Join Tropical Audubon Society for an extraordinary 12-day birding adventure through Ecuador’s Choco-Andes region and eastern foothills, July 10–21, 2027.

Led by TAS Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza, this journey will take us from the western slopes of the Andes to the eastern foothills, with stops in some of Ecuador’s premier birding destinations.

Our itinerary includes four nights in the Mindo area at Sachatamia Lodge, followed by exploration of the high-elevation páramo at Antisana National Park. We’ll then descend the eastern slope to San Isidro Lodge and WildSumaco Lodge, before making our way back to Quito.

Along the way, we’ll search for an incredible lineup of species—from hummingbirds and tanagers to antpittas, toucans, condors and the iconic Andean Cock-of-the-rock.

Set sail for conservation! 🌅🦩

Join Tropical Audubon Society and Pelican Harbor Seabird Station on Friday, October 9, from 6–8 p.m. for a special 2-hour sunset cruise through Biscayne Bay!

Guided by Tropical Audubon experts Field Trip Coordinator Brian Rapoza and Education Director Daniel Mlodozeniec, we’ll look for Brown Pelicans, Magnificent Frigatebirds and other native and migratory birds while learning about Tropical Audubon’s conservation work at Mangrove Island and their Lights Out Miami campaign.

Come early for an optional 90-minute behind-the-scenes tour of Pelican Harbor Seabird Station’s facility beginning at 4:30 p.m. The cruise departs promptly at 6 p.m.

🎟️ Tickets are $70 per person, and a portion of the proceeds benefits both Pelican Harbor Seabird Station and Tropical Audubon’s mission to protect South Florida’s birds, wildlife and habitats.

🌿 Community in action! 🌿

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the amazing team members from Whole Foods Market South Beach and Downtown Miami who rolled up their sleeves yesterday at Tropical Audubon Society’s Steinberg Nature Center!

Together, these dedicated volunteers tackled one of South Florida’s most persistent invasive plants — air potato vine — pulling vines and removing them from our grounds while helping beautify and restore this special urban nature sanctuary. 💚

The day’s efforts were overseen by TAS Grounds & Events Director Amy Creekmur, with the invaluable help of TAS volunteer Martha Kent, who helped guide our hardworking crew throughout the project.

Removing invasive plants gives our native flora room to thrive, strengthening the habitat that birds, butterflies and other wildlife depend on. It’s hands-on work — and it makes a real difference.

We’re so grateful to our Whole Foods Market neighbors for giving their time, energy and enthusiasm to help care for this historic property and the wild South Florida we all share.
