Brothers and Sisters, Now Is the Time to Stand United!

One of our own, Brother Norman Artica Rivera, who has been a proud member of IUOE Local 487 since August 2, 2010, is facing unexpected health challenges and needs our support.

As union brothers and sisters, we know that our strength lies not only in the work we do together but also in how we stand by one another during difficult times.

Today, we ask our Local 487 family to come together and lend a helping hand to Brother Norman. Any contribution, no matter how big or small, can make a meaningful difference for him and his family during this challenging time.

IUOE Local 487 is looking for an experienced LBC operator, friction experience is a plus but not necessarily a requirement, but experience on barges is a must.

This project is in Naples, Florida, so please be in the vicinity of Naples. This will be a 6-7 month project.

It is with deep sadness that I share the passing of an amazing person, John "Jack" K. Epperson Jr., owner of Epperson Cranes, Inc.

Jack was a longtime signatory contractor with IUOE Local 487 and served as a management trustee for both the South Florida Operating Engineers Apprenticeship Fund and the Health & Welfare Fund. His dedication and contributions to our industry, our union members, and their families will always be remembered and greatly appreciated.

Jack touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. Please keep his family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

It was a great pleasure to join apprenticeship director Mike Smith today in the Chambers of the Broward County Commission to highlight our robust apprenticeship program.

Each quarter, commissioner Steve Geller hosts discussions bringing together the business community and those of us in the Building Trades.

Today, the Local 487 apprenticeship program was featured. We are incredibly proud of the hard work Mike and his team at the training center have done to make Local 487 so successful.

It was great to visit our brothers and sisters at the Sims Crane West Palm Beach yard and see them hard at work, even in the Florida summer heat. Their dedication, professionalism, and commitment are a true reflection of what it means to be an Operating Engineer. No matter the challenge, Operating Engineers always get the job done.

Most importantly, stay safe out there and always look out for one another. That’s what being a brotherhood and sisterhood is all about.

A special thank you to Edras Salmon, Etienne Salomon, Sam Arango, Deandre Nelson, Nick Wetton, Whitney Bitner, Mick Pierrot, and Jason Lewis for representing Local 487 with pride and professionalism.

It was a great yard visit today at DLS Prestressed Inc., where our IUOE Local 487 members continue putting in the hard work, even during these hot summer days.

Our Local sincerely appreciates the dedication, professionalism, and pride these brothers bring to the job every day while representing our Union.
