👷Big dreams start with bold experiences!

Tomorrow, we’re partnering with Okland Construction to introduce youth in foster care to the many career paths available in the construction industry.

From construction and engineering to estimating and beyond, youth will have the chance to meet industry professionals, hear real career stories, ask questions, and learn about the education and skills needed to get started.

Career exploration is about more than learning what a job involves. It’s about discovering new interests, building confidence, and seeing possibilities for the future.

A huge thank you to Okland Construction for helping youth explore new opportunities and take steps toward their futures! 💙

What could your future look like?

On October 17, youth in foster care will spend the day at Glendale Community College exploring careers, college programs, and what’s possible after high school. 🎓

Youth will get hands-on exposure to automotive technology, real estate, IT and cybersecurity while learning more about GCC’s programs and admissions process.

Events like this give youth the opportunity to ask questions, discover new interests, and see career paths they may not have considered before.

Because you can’t dream boldly until you experience what’s possible. 💙

What happens when you give a young person the chance to try something they’ve never done before? 🌵🔥

On September 12, we partnered with West-MEC to give youth in foster care a hands-on look at careers in welding.

Youth learned about the skills, training, and opportunities that come with a career in the trades. Then they put those skills to work by welding their very own cactus!

It was a day of learning, creating, trying something new, and discovering what’s possible.

That’s the power of a Bold Experience. Career exploration becomes more meaningful when youth can get hands-on, meet people working in the field, and experience a career for themselves.

Thank you to West-MEC for opening the door to a new career path and giving our youth an experience they can carry with them.

Because you can’t dream boldly until you experience what’s possible. 💪

What does a career in construction look like? 🦺🔨

This Saturday, we’re partnering with NAWIC to give girls in foster care the opportunity to find out through a hands-on Bold Experience!

Participants will:
🏚️ Build their very own birdhouses while learning to use tools
🦺 Meet NAWIC mentors and learn about career paths and job opportunities
🎉 Try something new, build their confidence, and have fun!

Career exploration is about more than talking about what’s possible. Sometimes, it starts with picking up a tool, building something with your own hands, and meeting someone who can show you a path you hadn’t considered.

We’re grateful to NAWIC for helping youth see new possibilities for their futures.

Want to help us create more experiences like this? Go to www.fosteringheroes.org to support Fostering Heroes or volunteer at a future event. Your time, skills, and support help us give youth opportunities to explore, learn, and dream boldly.

🏀 More than just a day of basketball.

In August, 40+ teens in foster care joined us and Eagle_hoops for a Bold Experience.

They played. They connected. They came out of their shells. And they learned lessons they can carry far beyond the court:

💬 “I learned to be disciplined and motivated.”

💬 “I learned I have to be patient and listen.”

💬 “I learned how to talk to people with different life experiences.”

💬 “I learned how to have good conversations with myself to improve as a person.”

That’s the power of a Bold Experience: giving young people the chance to experience something new, discover what they’re capable of, and see new possibilities for themselves.

Because you can’t dream boldly until you experience what’s possible.🏀

🏀 What can one day of basketball mean for a teen in foster care?

A chance to get out of the house.
A chance to be part of a team.
A chance to try something new, meet new people, and discover something they didn’t know they could do.

In August, more than 40 teens in foster care joined us for a Bold Experience with Ironwood High School Basketball. Our volunteers brought their passion for the game and their commitment to giving youth something they can carry into their lives.

And the teens told us exactly what they were taking with them:

💬 “I learned to be disciplined and motivated.”

💬 “I learned how to have good conversations with myself to improve as a person.”

💬 “I learned I have to be patient and listen.”

💬 “I learned how to talk to people with different life experiences.”

That’s what Bold Experiences are about. Not just giving youth something fun to do, but creating opportunities to build confidence, learn new skills, connect with others, and imagine what might be possible.

Because you can’t dream boldly until you experience what’s possible.🏀

🌈 This summer, we’ve been getting creative with STEAM!

One of our favorite activities has been tie-dyeing with the youth in our Everyday Heroes Mentorship Program. While tie-dye is fun, it also creates a great opportunity to build important life skills.

With tie-dye, you can’t undo a choice once you make it. You have to trust yourself, trust the process, and lean into your creativity. Youth practice making decisions, taking risks, problem-solving, and learning to be comfortable with the outcome—even when it doesn’t turn out exactly as planned.

Throughout the summer, we’ve worked with more than 80 youth through our mentorship program, creating hands-on opportunities to learn, grow, and discover their strengths.

Sometimes, learning looks like a classroom. And sometimes, it looks like a colorful T-shirt and a little bit of courage. 💙

Over the weekend, more than 150 youth got to experience the excitement of back-to-school shopping at Kohl's thanks to our friends at Active 20-30 Club of Phoenix and Aspiring Youth Academy! 🎒🛍️

Before anyone grabbed a shopping cart, we gathered our teens for a budgeting challenge.

With a set budget in hand, they had to think beyond what they wanted and prioritize what they needed. They also calculated sales tax to see how it impacted their spending—a lesson that quickly became very real.

Some of our favorite moments came straight from the youth:

💬 "I feel rich."

💬 "Bro, I didn't notice that—I'm so glad we've got you to help us."

And after realizing how much taxes changed the budget...

💬 "F** you, tax!" 😂

It was funny, honest, and exactly why hands-on learning matters. These weren't just conversations about money—they were lessons in planning, problem-solving, and making thoughtful decisions.

Thank you to Phoenix Active 20-30 and every volunteer who made this day possible. Together, we're helping youth in foster care build confidence, independence, and the skills they'll carry long after the first day of school.

🧡 Because every young person deserves to start the school year feeling prepared, supported, and hopeful.

Please join us in welcoming Hannah to the Fostering Heroes Board of Directors.

Hannah brings both professional expertise and lived experience to our mission. As a Project Engineer at Okland Construction, a former foster youth, and a CASA volunteer, she understands the life-changing impact that consistent support and caring adults can have on a young person's future.

Her heart for service, leadership, and advocacy make her a wonderful addition to our board. We are grateful for her willingness to serve and excited for the difference she'll help make in the lives of Arizona's foster youth.

Welcome to the team, Hannah! 💙
