🌈 This summer, we’ve been getting creative with STEAM!

One of our favorite activities has been tie-dyeing with the youth in our Everyday Heroes Mentorship Program. While tie-dye is fun, it also creates a great opportunity to build important life skills.

With tie-dye, you can’t undo a choice once you make it. You have to trust yourself, trust the process, and lean into your creativity. Youth practice making decisions, taking risks, problem-solving, and learning to be comfortable with the outcome—even when it doesn’t turn out exactly as planned.

Throughout the summer, we’ve worked with more than 80 youth through our mentorship program, creating hands-on opportunities to learn, grow, and discover their strengths.

Sometimes, learning looks like a classroom. And sometimes, it looks like a colorful T-shirt and a little bit of courage. 💙

Over the weekend, more than 150 youth got to experience the excitement of back-to-school shopping at Kohl's thanks to our friends at Active 20-30 Club of Phoenix and Aspiring Youth Academy! 🎒🛍️

Before anyone grabbed a shopping cart, we gathered our teens for a budgeting challenge.

With a set budget in hand, they had to think beyond what they wanted and prioritize what they needed. They also calculated sales tax to see how it impacted their spending—a lesson that quickly became very real.

Some of our favorite moments came straight from the youth:

💬 "I feel rich."

💬 "Bro, I didn't notice that—I'm so glad we've got you to help us."

And after realizing how much taxes changed the budget...

💬 "F** you, tax!" 😂

It was funny, honest, and exactly why hands-on learning matters. These weren't just conversations about money—they were lessons in planning, problem-solving, and making thoughtful decisions.

Thank you to Phoenix Active 20-30 and every volunteer who made this day possible. Together, we're helping youth in foster care build confidence, independence, and the skills they'll carry long after the first day of school.

Please join us in welcoming Hannah to the Fostering Heroes Board of Directors.

Hannah brings both professional expertise and lived experience to our mission. As a Project Engineer at Okland Construction, a former foster youth, and a CASA volunteer, she understands the life-changing impact that consistent support and caring adults can have on a young person's future.

Her heart for service, leadership, and advocacy make her a wonderful addition to our board. We are grateful for her willingness to serve and excited for the difference she'll help make in the lives of Arizona's foster youth.

Sparks flew, confidence grew. ⚡

Last week, our youth traded the classroom for the shop floor, where they learned the basics of welding and watched a plasma CNC machine turn sheets of steel into precision-cut works of art.

For many youth in foster care, opportunities like this open the door to careers they may have never imagined. More importantly, they build confidence, spark curiosity, and remind our youth that they are capable of creating something incredible with their own hands.

Every new experience is a chance to discover a strength, learn a skill, and take one step closer to a successful future.

Thank you to everyone who shared their time, talents, and passion with our youth. Together, we're helping them build lives filled with purpose and possibility.

This summer, Fostering Heroes is proud to partner with Aspiring Youth Academy to bring the Money Smart Financial Literacy Cohort to youth in foster care.

Over six interactive weeks, teens in foster care will learn how to budget, save, build credit, avoid scams, and make informed financial decisions. For youth aging out of foster care, financial literacy is a critical life skill. Many enter adulthood without the family support systems that help young people navigate money, banking, and long-term planning. Building these skills early helps youth gain confidence, avoid costly mistakes, and move toward greater independence.

Together, we're helping young people build the knowledge, confidence, and tools they need to create a stronger future.

At Future Heroes Camp 2026, foster youth spent four days unplugging from everyday challenges and connecting with nature, mentors, and one another. They rode horses, practiced archery, created art, learned financial literacy and entrepreneurship, played sports, sat around campfires, and discovered new strengths along the way.

One youth shared, "It's a good way of connecting and feeling better about yourself." Another told us, "At first, I didn't really want to come, but now that I'm here I'm really happy that I came."

From early-morning hikes and late-night cabin conversations to horseback rides and campfire reflections, the moments that mattered most were the ones spent together.

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, and supporter who made Future Heroes Camp possible. Because of you, foster youth experienced four days filled with encouragement, adventure, and belonging.

The final score is in.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors, golfers, donors, and volunteers, the 20th Annual Fostering Heroes Golf Tournament raised more than $15,000 for youth aging out of foster care.

These funds will help young people gain practical life skills, connect with caring mentors, and explore new opportunities in their communities. Most important, they will help youth build the confidence to become the heroes of their own lives.
