FAITH & FORWARD FRIDAY
Guardians at the Gate
Today we remember September 11.
We remember the lives taken. We remember the families who carried unimaginable loss.
We remember the first responders who ran toward danger when every instinct would have told them to run away. And we remember the men and women who answered the call to military service in the years that followed.
There are moments in history when people discover what they are truly willing to stand for. September 11 was one of those moments.
As Christians, we know that living in faith does not mean believing pain will never come. It means knowing that pain does not have the final word.
God sees suffering.
God sees sacrifice.
God sees the person who stands at the gate when others need protection.
And God calls His children to respond to the world around them with courage, compassion, service, and love.
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid… for the Lord your God goes with you.” Deuteronomy 31:6
That courage took many forms after 9/11. A firefighter climbing another flight of stairs. A police officer refusing to leave. A stranger carrying someone they had never met. A young American walking into a recruiting office and saying, in one way or another:
Send me.
To the veterans whose service was shaped by September 11:
Thank you.
And remember something today. You are still a leader. The battlefield may have changed. The uniform may have come off.
But the courage, discipline, responsibility, and willingness to serve that were developed within you still have a place in this country, your community, your family, and the lives of those around you.
America does not only need veterans to remember what happened. America needs veterans to continue demonstrating what service looks like. Today we honor the fallen.
We thank those who stood the watch.
And we thank God for the men and women willing to stand at the gates of freedom when history demanded it.
Never forget.
Never stop serving.
Never stop leading.
Exhale. Evaluate. Emerge.
