What a wonderful first day at Back Bay Mission. We began the morning with our orientation, where we learned about Back Bay and the work they do here in Biloxi, MS. After that, we split into three groups: one went to a house where a few of us painted and cleaned a bedroom and other projects; another group worked on remodeling two bathrooms at a different house; and the third stayed at Back Bay to assist in the day center, helping the unhoused meet basic needs such as showers, clothes, and hot meals. We ended the day sharing a hot meal together, reflecting on the work we did and what it meant to us, and how eye-opening it is for us to see beyond our bubble in Merrill and have in-person experiences with people we see or hear about on TV — but now, we actually get to help!
