John Wesley was an English preacher, theologian, and spiritual leader whose life and ministry helped shape the Methodist movement. Born in 1703, Wesley grew up in a deeply Christian home and later studied at Oxford University. While at Oxford, he became committed to prayer, Bible study, fasting, and serving others. His desire for a disciplined Christian life became an important part of what would later be called Methodism.
Wesley’s legacy continues in the Methodist tradition today. His emphasis on grace, faith, holiness, discipleship, and compassionate service remains central to the Methodist understanding of Christian life.
