🇺🇸 A Heartfelt Thank You 🇺🇸

As we celebrate Independence Day, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of the Optimist Club of Bastrop and to all of the dedicated volunteers—past and present—who have faithfully cared for the American flag that proudly flies over our courthouse square.

For years, these individuals have quietly given their time to raise, lower, replace, and respectfully care for Old Glory. Their service often goes unnoticed, but it reflects a deep love for our country, respect for our veterans, and pride in our community.

This morning, the club respectfully retired a weathered flag that had faithfully served our city and raised a beautiful new one in its place. It was a moving reminder that the American flag is more than fabric—it is a symbol of the freedoms we enjoy, the sacrifices made on our behalf, and the hope we share for future generations.

To everyone who has handled the ropes, replaced worn flags, and ensured that our nation’s colors always fly with dignity—thank you. Your commitment has helped keep this treasured tradition alive for our community.

May we never take for granted the freedoms represented by our flag, nor the people who quietly work behind the scenes to honor it.
