Care & Hope Ministry 11th annual Christmas Backpack Distribution was held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Bastrop with over 400 people attending. The program Provided Christmas Backpacks Backacks filled with gifts, school supplies, clothing, hygiene items and candies were distributed to 300+ children from ages 2-17 who live-in Morehouse Parish. In addition to backpacks, the children received Bibles from the Gideons of Morehouse Parish, toys, clothing, bed linens, socks, and the head of household received a coupon for a baking hen donated by patrons of Super One foods in Bastrop. Other donors were Louisiana Baptists Children's Home, Morehouse Baptist Association and supporting Baptist churches as well as the Washington Baptist Association of Washington County, Alabama who provided the filled backpacks and assisted with the distribution of all the donated items.
The adult Choir of First Baptist Church shared a musical Christmas program for all attendees to enjoy. Rev. Walt Brown, Pastor and Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Bastrop brought a special message explaining Jesus's love for all people and the true meaning of Christmas. Following his message, the Bibles, backpacks, toys and other gifts were distributed to the children.
Care & Hope Ministry is a non profitable organization founded in 2011 to serve the low income/underpriveleged persons and families of Morehouse Parish. The Ministry regularly provide boxes of food to qualifying families and individuals as well as other outreach events throughout the year.
