“I always try to be the person I wish I had supporting me through the navigation of the thing we call ‘life.’”
Meet Lizzet, an Inland Empire native who has spent the past two years with Able Works, and she’s all about giving back to the community she’s always called home.
Through her work, Lizzet helps lead FutureProfits, partnering with schools, community organizations, and probation departments to support opportunity youth ages 15–25. She also helps run Able Works’ adapted LiveAble program, where young people receive one-on-one mentoring, monthly cohort experiences, goal-setting support, and financial assistance.
But for Lizzet, it’s more than a job. It’s about showing up.
It might look like sitting down over a cup of coffee or her personal favorite, boba, listening to a student’s goals, helping them navigate a challenge, or simply reminding them that someone believes in them.
And she has a special message for the young people she serves:
“You are so much more than the perceptions people may have of you.”
Lizzet has seen firsthand the creativity, determination, respect, and individuality that opportunity youth bring to the table. She believes that sometimes, all someone needs is one person willing to stand beside them and offer a little support.
For Lizzet, witnessing that growth is the best part of the work.
“Being able to ‘brag’ to my students that I don’t feel like I’m working is a big plus.”
Because when you love your community, believe in its young people, and get to give back to the place you call home… Sometimes work feels a lot like purpose.
We’re grateful to have Lizzet on the Able Works team, helping young people see what’s possible and reminding them they don’t have to figure it all out alone.
Boba + mentorship + community + a whole lot of heart = Lizzet.
