What is Prop 50
Proposition 50 gives California voters the power to decide if the state's congressional district maps should change through a process called redistricting

What are congressional maps?
Every state is broken up into districts based on how many people live there. All districts in every state are supposed to have similar numbers of people in them to ensure equal representation in Congress, state legislatures, and more.

So, what is redistricting?
Redistricting is when elected officials redraw a state's congressional maps, usually after the census every 10 years, to make sure all districts still have an equal number of people who live in them.
But there is a BIG difference between redistricting and gerrymandering, where officials purposely draw districts that give one party or group of voters more power.

How did California get in the mix?
In August, California introduced Prop 50 to cancel out the five districts Texas gerrymandered by drawing five new districts on their own congressional maps.

Vote yes. Vote no. Just get out there and VOTE!!
