In a piece published in Just Security Forum, Scott Busby, Mary Giovagnoli, Harold Hongju Koh, and Michael Posner sound the alarm ahead of the Supreme Court hearing in Noem v. Al Otro Lado on March 24.

As former officials of the U.S. Departments of Homeland Security, State, and Justice, the authors, who filed an amicus brief in the case last month, call the Trump administration’s arguments “not just morally troubling” but “legally wrong.”

The deadline to ensure that kids can get life-saving in-person support is March 23rd.

For decades, child advocates have met with unaccompanied children in shelters to build trust with them, hear their stories, and keep them safe. Now the government wants kids, some as young as toddlers, to meet with their attorneys only over a video call.

Immigrant kids need advocates by their side, NOT ON A SCREEN.

Our partners at are standing up to defend the rights of refugees.

In an amicus brief filed in Noem v. Al Otro Lado, HIAS urges the Supreme Court to reject “turnback” policies that unlawfully block people from seeking protection at official border crossings.

“We have stood on both sides of this history — advocating for the passengers of the St. Louis in 1939 and serving families forced to wait in Mexico in recent years,” Beth Oppenheim, HIAS CEO, says.

“The human cost of denying entry is not theoretical. It is measured in lives disrupted, endangered, and sometimes lost. The court must uphold the clear promise in U.S. law: that those who reach our ports of entry have the right to ask for protection.”

Housing instability and access to legal help are deeply connected.

The At a Precipice: How Funding Cuts Threaten Justice for Millions in California report from the Bar Association of San Francisco shows that when legal support is cut, millions are pushed closer to eviction and homelessness.

Legal aid helps people fight unjust evictions and stay housed.

Homelessness must be fought: not against people, but against the systems and inequalities that create it.

Silicon Valley is one of the wealthiest places in the country... but not for everyone. When 10% of earners hold 71% of the wealth, low-wage workers struggle to keep living-wage jobs and remain in the communities they’ve built.

The good news is that wealth inequality isn’t inevitable, and you can help change it. As we enter a year likely to bring financial hardship for many, we need more people and institutions to step up, give more, and give boldly.

Here are three actions you can take to support wealth distribution in your community.
