Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue We are a 501 3(c) non-profit all-volunteer organization committed to rescuing Golden Retrievers Our generous donors help fund our annual veterinarian expenses.

We offer placement services for owners who need to give up their Golden Retrievers because of changing life circumstances such as relocation, financial hardship, divorce, allergies, illness, or death. We offer our families an alternative to taking their pets to an animal shelter or trying to rehome them on social platforms. We also rescue abandoned, neglected, and even abused Golden Retrievers. About 200 Golden Retrievers and Golden Mixes annually find a haven with Norcal Golden Retriever Rescue. Unlike some rescue groups, we welcome senior Golden Retrievers (over 8 years old) and find them a safe, loving home to spend the rest of their lives. We also take Golden Retrievers with all kinds of medical conditions and pay for treatments, including complex surgeries, where the Golden Retriever has a good chance of living pain-free lives. The most frequent conditions that we treat are typically hip dysplasia and other orthopedic problems that can be expensive.

Cody is a gorgeous 9-year-old red neutered male Golden Retriever who definitely doesn't act his age. He has plenty of energy and the enthusiasm of a much younger dog. Cody enjoys walks, loves attention, and is well-behaved. He can be a little pushy when it comes to getting pets or chasing a ball, but with a tolerant canine companion, it's not an issue. Although he was surrendered with Lexi, they do not need to be adopted together. At home, Cody is a great mix of fun and chill. He enjoys being near his people and settles nicely when it's time to relax. His recall still needs work, so he's not ready for off-leash adventures. If you're looking for a handsome, affectionate companion with the heart of a young dog and the maturity of an adult, Cody could be your perfect match.

Lexi is a chill 12 year old spayed female. She is a sweet gal with a very mellow personality. She's the kind of dog who doesn't get bothered if her dog brother takes her ball or claims her favorite spot on the floor. She enjoys going for walks, although about 20 minutes seems to be her ideal outing, her back legs seem to be causing her some aches. Lexi is a good sleeper and enjoys spending time in her crate. She loves affection and being near her people, but she's not glued to her human and is happy to relax on her own. She gets along well with other dogs and would be a nice addition to a household that already has pets or if she is the only one. Lexi is a real bright spot for someone looking for an easy, low-maintenance companion with a calm, loving nature.

ADOPTED❤️ Meet Rosie, the tiny but mighty Golden who's only 1 year and 6 months young and weighs a whopping 50 lbs! 🐾💪 We detected a heart murmur during her initial wellness check (no biggie, just a minor drama queen moment 💁‍♀️), and she's got a Grade 2-3 murmur, but no meds needed, phew! 👍 Her next echo is scheduled for June 22, 2026, to make sure her heart is still beating to the same drum 💖. This little lady loves to eat things she shouldn't (hello, socks and toys, goodbye, snacks 🍩), so we've enrolled her in a three-week board-and-train program to teach her some manners 📚. After that, she'll be ready for her forever home in Alameda County, where she'll need a foster who can keep up with her antics and make sure she attends her echo appointment 📅. Rosie is a quiet homebody who sleeps in her crate and gets along with other dogs, cats, and kids (as long as they're old enough to help with her snacking habits, of course 🤣). Still looking for a home .........Rainbow is a handsome 10 yo, 80lb Golden Irish (Golden Retriever-Irish Setter) mix. But don't let his age fool you, this is a high-energy dog with no plans on slowing down anytime soon! Rainbow is a typical family dog who gets along great with kids and is more than happy to lounge by your side. He thrives outdoors and LOVES his daily 2-3-mile walks. Rainbow walks well on the leash in a neighborhood or on sidewalks, but he's also a strong dog who requires an experienced, sturdy owner who can manage him if he sees a cat or squirrel. Cats are a definite "BIG NO". Because of Rainbow's size and strength, we'd recommend kids ages 9 and up in the household. Rainbow can be good with other dogs with proper introduction, and unless toys are involved. Because he does not like to share his toys, we are recommending that he be the only dog in the home. He's also a counter-surfer and uses his height to his advantage. Rainbow completed a wellness exam with blood work and has no known health issues. If you are looking for a fantastic companion dog and are an experienced dog owner committed to providing him with the daily exercise he needs, please indicate your interest in your adoption application. Meet Hoss—the golden retriever with a heart (and tail) as big as his appetite! This handsome 4-year-old, neutered gent weighs in at a solid 92 lbs, and he's on a mission to shed another 12-15 lbs. Thanks to his gourmet diet food and two daily adventures (aka walks), Hoss has already waved goodbye to 7 lbs! He's working on his stamina for longer escapades, currently strutting about a mile each time. Don’t worry—he’s up to date on all his medical checks and vaccinations, ready for whatever fun comes next.

Hoss’s biggest challenge? He thinks every walk is a parade in his honor! Leash manners aren’t his strong suit yet, even with his snazzy harness and martingale collar. But don’t worry—he’s not aggressive, just eager to say hi to every person and pup he meets. Hoss is a social butterfly who greets other dogs with a wag and a smile.

He’s a gentleman in the house—potty-trained, quiet (rarely barks!), and loves curling up in his own bed at night. Hoss can chill on his own for up to 4 hours during the day. This mysterious golden was found in a Monterey field, so his past is a bit of a puzzle. He could use a brush-up on basic commands, but his size means he’d do best with older kids (don’t worry, he’s not the jumpy type!). Hoss is currently living his best foster life in Fremont, waiting to meet his forever family.

Northern California - LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED DOG OWNER FOR OUR SPECIAL NEEDS PENNY........... Penny is an adorable, 1 year old creme Golden Retriever who will steal your heart with her bright eyes and happy tail wags. Weighing in at 49 pounds (with a goal to WEIGH 55 LBS), she’s a bundle of love and energy in a small package. Penny is super affectionate, loves being around people, and picks up new things quickly—she’s a star student!

Life hasn’t always been easy for Penny. She’s bravely bounced back from five obstructions and three major surgeries at (Beacon, UC Davis and Sage) , so she needs a family who will help keep her safe and healthy. To avoid any more scary mishaps, Penny rocks a muzzle when out and about (unless she’s tethered or playing with approved toys or doggie friends), and she’s always under watchful eyes. She has a fascination for paper products, and her intestines can not handle anything but food for the next year as she continues her recovery. Don’t worry, this doesn’t slow her down! Penny loves her twice-day-mile walks and is discovering that the world can be a fun and exciting place. She has started to play with other dogs.

Penny is looking for an experienced family (maybe with older kids) who are ready to stick to her training plan and help her thrive. She’s currently being fostered in Pacifica, but we’ll happily drive her to wherever her perfect family is waiting. Bonus: she comes with training and additional funds to help her get off to a strong start!
