🥡 375 Years of Medfield: Who Remembers Golden Rice?

Some Medfield history is found in old photographs, Town records and history books.

And some of it apparently begins with someone saying…

“Ohhhh, Golden Rice…” 😳😂

If this photo brings back memories, you’re certainly not alone.

Golden Rice was one of several restaurants that called this spot home over the years. Earlier chapters included the Red Vest, Tally Ho and Sun Island before Golden Rice eventually took its turn. The property was later demolished to make way for the Medfield Post Office in 1998.

But buildings and businesses are only part of the story.

The really good history comes from the people who were there. ❤️

And based on a few conversations we’ve already had, we have a feeling some of you have STORIES. 👀😂

🚗🚌 KNOW BEFORE YOU GO: SPECTATOR PARKING & SHUTTLES

Planning to join us for Medfield’s 375th Anniversary Parade & Celebration on October 17?

Let’s talk parking!

With road closures and very limited street parking expected in the center of town, spectators are strongly encouraged to use our FREE designated public parking and shuttle service.

🚗 PUBLIC PARKING

Spectator parking will be available at:

Wheelock Elementary School
📍 17 Elm Street, Medfield

The parking lot will open at 9:00 AM.

When you arrive, simply follow the PUBLIC PARKING signs. Parking attendants will be on site to help get everyone where they need to go.

🚌 FREE SHUTTLES

Shuttle buses will begin running at 9:30 AM and will run continuously between the public parking area and downtown Medfield.

The same shuttle service will be available throughout Party in the Park, so there’s no need to rush back to your car after the parade — stay and enjoy the celebration! 🎉

Following the parade and Party in the Park, shuttles will continue returning spectators to Wheelock.

The final shuttle will leave the downtown pickup location at 4:45 PM.

Please allow some extra time during peak arrival and departure periods when shuttle demand will be highest.

♿ ACCESSIBILITY

Accessible parking spaces will be available within the public parking area at Wheelock.

For anyone who may need a little additional assistance after arriving downtown, a golf cart will be available at the shuttle drop-off location to help with the trip into the center of town.

⭐ OUR BEST ADVICE?

Plan ahead. Arrive early. Use the shuttle.

Then find your spot along the route and get ready for a pretty incredible day in Medfield. 💙

🚨 WE’RE ALMOST THERE — BUT WE STILL NEED YOUR HELP!

Medfield, you have really stepped up. 💙

Thanks to an incredible response from our community, our general volunteer teams for the 375th Anniversary Parade are now fully staffed or nearly complete.

But there is one area where we still need some helping hands.

We are looking for additional Parade Route Support Volunteers to help us on Saturday, October 17.

These volunteers will be stationed at designated locations along the parade route and will help:

👥 Assist spectators along the route
🚶 Help maintain awareness of pedestrian and spectator areas
👀 Serve as additional eyes and ears on Parade Day
📻 Report any traffic or safety concerns to Medfield Police
💙 Help us keep the parade route safe, organized and welcoming for everyone

This is not a traffic enforcement role, and volunteers will not be responsible for directing vehicular traffic. Instructions and assignments will be provided prior to Parade Day.

If you’ve been thinking about volunteering but haven’t signed up yet, this is where we still need you.

It takes a LOT of people behind the scenes to put 375 years of Medfield in motion — and we’d love to have you be part of it.

☕🌧️ A rainy Sunday morning seems like the perfect time for a little Medfield history…

Recognize this spot?

This vintage postcard calls it “Lake Mitchell, Medfield, Mass.” Today, we know it as Meeting House Pond — and on October 17, this historic corner of Medfield will become one of the gathering places for our 375th Anniversary Celebration.

After the parade makes its way through town, the celebration continues at Meeting House Pond with our Party in the Park from 1–4 PM — music, food, entertainment, and a whole lot of Medfield community spirit. 🤎

And as of today…

41 DAYS TO GO! 🎉

For generations, this pond and the surrounding area have been part of Medfield’s story. In just a few short weeks, we’ll add another chapter.

👀 BEHIND THE SCENES…

Something pretty special is taking shape over at the Medfield Fire Department. 🇺🇸

We’re not going to tell you exactly what these guys are working on just yet…

But we will tell you that it involves the Fire Department, a whole lot of red, white and blue, and something that is going to be very hard to miss. 😉

The best part? What they’re creating isn’t just being prepared with October 17 in mind. The Fire Department is also hoping to have it ready as part of Medfield’s observance of September 11, giving this project an even more meaningful purpose.

Yesterday, members of the Fire Department were busy with some behind-the-scenes engineering needed to make it happen — measuring, cutting, rigging and figuring out exactly how to safely bring the Chief’s idea to life.

And we’ve heard there might even be a test run coming soon… 👀

🚒 Calling all fire departments & fire apparatus!

The Medfield Fire Department is organizing a special fire apparatus contingent as part of Medfield’s 375th Anniversary Parade on October 17!

Fire department participation is being coordinated separately and directly by the Medfield Fire Department. Interested departments should contact Chief DeKing using the information in the post below.

FIRE DEPARTMENTS & FIRE APPARATUS OWNERS — WE WANT YOU!

The Town of Medfield is celebrating its 375th Anniversary, and we are putting together a parade on Saturday, October 17th!

We are inviting fire departments from across the area, as well as private owners of retired, antique, or historic fire apparatus, to join us and help make this a memorable part of Medfield’s 375th celebration.

All fire apparatus are welcome!

Our goal is to bring together apparatus from different departments and different generations of the fire service for a great community event celebrating 375 years of history, community, and service in Medfield.
