Every child deserves the chance to discover that they belong in nature.

Children are born curious.

They want to know what's hiding beneath a rock, how many newts are in a pond, what they can see through a microscope, and where the creek goes around the bend.

Too often, that curiosity gets crowded out by schedules, screens, and a lack of opportunities to simply explore.

At Outdoor Education Adventures, we watch it come back to life every week.

Camp is where children discover that streams are full of tiny creatures, forests are alive with birds, and they're capable of more than they ever imagined.

They build confidence by crossing a log for the first time. They learn perseverance when the rain doesn't stop the adventure. They discover that science isn't just something in a textbook. They make friends, solve problems, ask questions, and begin to see themselves as explorers, scientists, and stewards of the natural world.

Most importantly, they discover that they belong in nature.

This summer, we've received more requests for financial assistance than ever before. We believe every child deserves the opportunity to experience the joy, confidence, curiosity, and belonging that comes from a week outdoors.

Our goal is to raise $6,000 so we can say "yes" to every family requesting assistance this summer.

The average family receiving financial assistance needs about 57% off tuition, so a gift of $200 helps one child attend camp.

Imagine what could happen if 30 people each gave $200.

Thirty children would spend a week discovering that the world is more fascinating than they ever imaginedโ€”and that they are, too.

If a gift of $200 isn't possible, every donation helps. Together, gifts of every size open the door for children who might otherwise miss this experience.

If you believe every child deserves the chance to explore, discover, and fall in love with the natural world, we'd be honored if you'd join us.

Thank you for helping the next generation discover that they belong in nature. โค๏ธ

A sneak peek into Nature Play! ๐Ÿ๐ŸŒฟ

Each week we introduce a featured local creature to help children connect with the natural world through curiosity, exploration, and hands-on experiences. This weekโ€™s special guest was the garter snake!

The kids (and parents!) had the chance to meet a garter snake found at Maple Grove up close and in person. For some of our littles and(even a few grown-ups) it was their very first time touching a snake! Watching nervousness turn into curiosity and excitement was such a beautiful reminder of how powerful nature-based learning can be. ๐Ÿ’š

At Nature Play, we believe meaningful connections with the natural world begin with moments like these.

๐Ÿ WOW! We may have just found the biggest garter snake in Outdoor Science Explorers history! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

One of our homeschool OSE students recently spotted and carefully caught an absolutely massive garter snake during class, measuring around FOUR FEET long! The excitement was through the roof as everyone gathered to observe this incredible reptile up close before safely releasing her back into her habitat.

Spring is an especially active time for garter snakes in Oregon! As temperatures warm up, these fascinating snakes emerge from winter brumation (a reptile version of hibernation) to bask in the sun, hunt for food, and search for mates. โ˜€๏ธ

A few fun garter snake facts:
๐Ÿ Garter snakes are harmless and non-venomous to humans
๐Ÿ They give birth to live babies instead of laying eggs like most snakes
๐Ÿ Oregon is home to several species of garter snakes
๐Ÿ They are excellent swimmers and are often found near ponds, wetlands, and creeks

Moments like these remind us how exciting hands-on outdoor learning can be. You never know what amazing wildlife discoveries are waiting just down the trail! ๐Ÿ’š
