I came across a neat find on the You Know You're From McMechen If... page. These are old pictures of the Bank of McMechen. Which became the home of Happy Tails Pet Salon in 2006 and is where our Happy Tails Paw It Forward now resides.
I believe the person who posted these used AI to clean up the photos and it took some liberties with the signs.
Parts of the building were many different things throughout the years I'm told, but the drive thru was the drive thru until it became Happy Tails home. When we pulled up the carpet you could still see the intricate patterns of the tile that was the original floor. The bullet proof drive thru window now holds the Pet Salon's logo and is Terri's window to the world while she is grooming.
We can still see evidence of the old building on the outside and inside. As a matter of fact, the big windows you see on the side of the bank before the drive thru was added are still there, sandwiched between the buildings. Instead of removing the windows they just broke holes in the glass to run wiring from the main building down to the drive thru building. The large safe in the main bank building is still there. It's hard to believe that what was once a computer room in a bank, now is furnished with a raised tub for bathing dogs.
The building may be historic and scarred but we can't imagine calling any other place home.
Thank you McMechen United Methodist Church for believing in us and giving us a chance oh so long ago, and to the City of McMechen, for giving us a place to plant our roots and grow.

The money goes to support all of our Paw It Forward giving.

Tw***ie has really been enjoying giving money away and we're so glad we have her for the photo ops, especially since no one else wants to do them, lol.
Today she presented a donation to the Ohio County Sheriff's Office, West Virginia to help purchase needed gear for their Search and Recovery Dive Team, although she can't understand why they need gear if they'd just learn how to doggy paddle.

A few weeks ago Tw***ie was happy to present the Wellsburg Police Department a check to help with the purchase of a new K9.
Tw***ie, along with the rest of the Happy Tails Paw It Forward pack, are looking forward to meeting the new member of the police dept.

We’re going to try a few small fundraisers to help support Happy Tails Paw It Forward, and we’re starting with a limited run of t-shirts.
Sizes range from Small through 2XLG, but quantities are very limited. If these do well, we hope to introduce new designs throughout the year.
You can receive a shirt with any donation of $25 or more. Shirts are available at Happy Tails Pet Salon. If you are interested in shipping, please call 304-233-2740 to make arrangements. Shipping and handling fees will apply.
At this time we aren't set up to do online ordering.

As they say, time flies when you’re having fun — and apparently when you’re busy paying it forward you forget it’s our birthday!
While Happy Tails Paw It Forward has been operating as a charity since 2017, May 25, 2025 marked a very special milestone for us — the day we officially became an official 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

What a year it has been. In just our official first year, we have donated more than 100 raffle baskets to help individuals and organizations in their fundraising efforts, along with over $16,000 to organizations and causes such as CASA For Children, Inc., Helping Heroes, First Responders in need, various First Responder organizations, food drives, Harmony House Children's Advocacy Center, House of Hagar Catholic Worker, Ladies League of Marshall County, The Caring Tree, Seeing Hands, flood relief, medical benefits, fire relief, the Cambridge OH PD-Belmont County Sheriff's Office and Wellsburg Police Department K9 Units, Cockayne At Glen Dale, area animal shelters, the Back Pack Ministry, and so many more.
Make no mistake, none of this would be possible without the support of those who donate their time, their talents, and those who give what they can — from monetary donations to basket items. We often hear that we are a blessing to the community, but the truth is, it’s the community that blesses us. We are honored to Paw It Forward on your behalf.
