Some people describe Cayden as a kind-hearted 22-year-old West Virginian who wants to use his upbeat energy and knack for hands-on work to become a carpenter.

Others know Cayden is a young adult in recovery.

Cayden is working hard to build an ordinary life. And he has one thing to ask of you, too: See what he’s doing now.

“Don’t always look at the addict,” he said. “Look at how they’re changing.”

East Wheeling, it's almost here. 🗓️

The East Wheeling Forum Meet & Greet is Saturday, October 17 at Historic Laughlin Memorial Chapel (129 18th St), and we want every corner of this neighborhood in the room.

This one is about getting to know each other: real conversations between neighbors, building rapport, and figuring out how we work together to rebuild the community we all call home. We'll also share some of the initiatives EWC has planned for the year ahead.

Lainey Bartolovich, one of our Expanded School Mental Health (ESMH) Coordinators, recently visited Wheeling University to present on trauma-informed teaching and career growth in school-based mental health!

Her presentation focused on how trauma can affect learning and practical ways educators can create supportive, connected classroom environments.

Lainey also shared insight into the various roles of ESMH professionals in school settings and how they support students and educators by addressing social, emotional and mental health needs.

Way to go, Lainey! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and engaging with future educators! 🎓

Stop by the second floor of YSS’s main building at 87 15th St. on Oct. 7 from 2-5 p.m. for free resources to make the homecoming season a little easier.

Today is Save a Life Day!

YSS is proud to serve alongside nonprofit partners Jobs & Hope West Virginia, Weirton Young Professionals, Empower and Link, Ohio County Family Resource Network - WV and The Unity Center to bring this event locally.

Stop by any of the locations below between noon and 4 p.m. to receive a naloxone kit, get a short on-site training and learn about local resources.

Ohio County: 18th Street near Catholic Charities, East Wheeling
Marshall County: Moundsville Walmart
Wetzel County: 1021 Third St., New Martinsville

With more than 500 events happening across the country today, Save a Life Day has grown into a national day of action focused on lifesaving education, naloxone access and reducing stigma.

We’re grateful to the over 50 volunteers and community partners helping make this day possible across the Northern Panhandle! 💙
