Following the release of the U.S. Army’s report on the PSA Flight 5342 midair collision, ALPA President Capt. Jason Ambrosi called on Congress to require integrated ADS-B In technology for civilian and military aircraft and ADS-B Out transmission by military aircraft nationwide.

“The Army’s report is another call to action to honor the 67 lives lost over the Potomac on January 29, 2025, by making sure a tragedy like this never happens again," he said. "This accident could have been prevented if the PSA Flight 5342 aircraft and the U.S. Army Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter had been equipped with integrated ADS-B In technology."

“In addition, the Army’s report affirms multiple National Transportation Safety Board recommendations and validates the need for legislation requiring all military aircraft to transmit ADS-B Out nationwide," he continued. "These improvements are needed to close safety gaps identified during the accident investigation by ensuring airline pilots can see all other aircraft, including military aircraft."

"Spirit's workers shared personal information because their jobs required it, not so it could be sold to train AI," said ALPA President Capt. Jason Ambrosi. "Our safety system works because pilots and other airline workers trust that when they speak up, it stays confidential. Break that trust and people stop reporting. We thank Senator Warren and Representative Horsford and dozens of Members of Congress for acting quickly to seek answers before this sale is final. Google and Spirit must put real, enforceable protections in place before a single employee record changes hands."

The U.S. Army’s own investigation makes the case. needs to act.

67 people died. Now the Army’s investigator recommends ADS-B In in heavy urban airspace, the protection our families have been fighting for.

Finish the aviation safety bill. Require the technology. Set firm deadlines. Close the loopholes.

Congress made a down payment earlier this year to modernize U.S. air traffic control, but there is far more work to be done.

Right now, airline pilots are flying 21st-century airplanes through a 20th-century ATC system. From the flight deck, we've watched it fall behind for decades. Ask any pilot what it's like when the frequency goes quiet, or when a cut cable stops traffic at some of the busiest airports in the country.

We're urging Congress to pass the Modern Skies Act and provide the additional funding needed to finish the job of modernizing ATC, airport towers, terminals, and infrastructure.

“It's time for action, action that was promised months ago."

NTSB Chairwoman Jennifer Homendy delivered a passionate and inspiring keynote at our recent Air Safety Forum, calling for urgent progress on aviation safety.

Congress must pass combined legislation that includes integrated ADS-B In, a key part of the Senate-passed ROTOR Act and a top recommendation in the NTSB's Potomac midair collision report.

He's an airline pilot who still spends his free time in the sky. 🎈✈️

When Capt. Chris Sabia, PSA ALPA MEC Chair, isn't flying a Bombardier CRJ700, he's flying a hot-air balloon.

As owner of Kansas City Aerosports since 1997, Sabia maintains a fleet of five balloons, offering branding and marketing opportunities, sales and training events, and passenger joyrides.

The fleet is best known for its Wonder Bread Cameron Z-70, which travels to 17 to 18 cities a year from May to October. Its stops range from the Tulsa International Balloon Festival in Oklahoma to the Up, Up & Away Florida Hot Air Balloon Festival in Lakeland. And this year, the Wonder Bread balloon is at the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta!

"What I enjoy most about hot-air ballooning are the people I meet and the smiles that ballooning brings to their faces," Sabia said. "It doesn't matter if you're a little kid or a big one, when somebody sees a hot-air balloon, they just love it."

TSA is phasing out Known Crewmember (KCM) over the next few weeks, rather than keeping it in place through the end of the year.

Crewmember Access Point (CMAP) is now established at every location where KCM currently operates.

What pilots need to know:

✅ Until KCM is removed at your location, continue carrying your ALPA program badge.

✅ Enrolling crews in CMAP is the airline's responsibility. Some airlines have not yet done so.

✅ Once KCM is removed at a location, crewmembers not enrolled in CMAP by their airline will need to use passenger screening, or crew line screening where available.

Check CMAP locations and hours ⤵

CMAP Locations and Hours - The Crewmember Access Point (CMAP) is a voluntary opt in program for eligible crewmembers with expedited access to the sterile area at participating airports.

Members of the Executive Board heard a special presentation from former ALPA president and U.S. representative to the International Civil Aviation Organization Capt. Duane Woerth, who shared memories of his leadership during 9/11 – from being called into the Oval Office and safely guiding every plane to the ground to serving on former Transportation Secretary Norman Mineta’s Rapid Response Team on Aircraft Security, discussing funding to recover and deciding what day to fly again.

Woerth served as president during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and shared with the Executive Board the tough decisions made during aviation’s darkest hours.

Good communication is key to our success at the negotiating table, in grievances, and in the day-to-day work at our pilot groups. We held our first Communications Summit in nearly two decades to bring leaders and communicators from across ALPA to share ideas, lessons, and resources between pilot groups.

With digital products, social media, and paid ad options constantly evolving, our industry-leading communications team worked with MECs on how to reach their members, however they consume information about their union. We’re always updating and expanding how we reach our members to continue building a unified and connected ALPA.

Pilots and air traffic controllers share one mission: getting people home safely. NATCA President Nick Daniels joined our Executive Board to talk about a partnership that has been proven, time and again.

Daniels described a relationship built on picking up the phone, showing up for each other through tragic accidents, and standing side by side as labor leaders who understand that safety is a shared responsibility, not a competition between professions.
