Happy Juneteenth from the Junior League of Northern Virginia!

Today, we honor Juneteenth, a celebration of freedom, resilience, and the continued pursuit of equity and justice.

On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas, sharing news of freedom nearly two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Also known as Freedom Day, Juneteenth reminds us that freedom delayed is freedom denied.

As members of JLNV, we celebrate progress and remain committed to leading with purpose, compassion, and service toward a more just and inclusive future.

Together, let’s continue to lead forward!

Throwback Thursday: Celebrating our herstory!

After starting in 1958, the women of the Service League of Northern Virginia were building a legacy of service, leadership, and community impact. Today, as the Junior League of Northern Virginia, we continue to honor that foundation while creating our future.

Knowing our past helps us understand our purpose, celebrate those who came before us, and lead with intention for the generations ahead.

Here’s to the stories, the service, and the leaders who continue to make history.

🌈 Happy Pride Month!

We proudly reaffirm that the Junior League of Northern Virginia is a place for everyone who shares our mission and vision, and that we are committed to, and actively working towards, creating diverse, equitable, and inclusive environments to create a sense of belonging among our members and within our communities.

Not just in June, but every day we celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community and honor the progress made toward equality, while recognizing the work still needed to create an inclusive and accepting world.

Period Poverty Awareness Week is an annual initiative launched by the Alliance for Period Supplies to highlight the lack of access to menstrual products. JLNV recognized this important week with so many of our incredible community partners, including a period product packing party with Ms. Moxie’s Moon Shop, virtual Pilates with Clarissa Shepherd, and a lunch and learn to discuss period poverty as a public health equity issue with Samantha Kanselaar, PhD candidate a George Mason University. We also heard from our community partners at .lortonaction, and about how they take action to end period poverty locally!
