Women building better communities Our roots run deep into the community and have for more than fifty years.

The JLNV is also part of a larger organization, the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI). For over 100 years, the AJLI has worked to foster a spirit of involvement to improve communities worldwide. We join the more than 300 leagues in the United States and around the world, including Canada, Mexico, and Great Britain. Worldwide membership is more than 200,000 and growing. Founded in 1958 as the Service League of Arlington
Admitted to the AJLI in 1985
Members come from Arlington, Fairfax, Loudon, Faquier, and Prince William counties in Northern Virginia as well as Maryland and the District of Columbia. We focus our effort at helping prepare children in Northern Virginia for success.

For over 65 years, the JLNV has partnered with local organizations to create meaningful, lasting impact in our community. From bringing Reading Is Fundamental to Alexandria in 1962, to helping develop the Family Resource Center at Shelter House and providing seed funding for the Children’s Science Center, JLNV volunteers have helped advance innovative solutions to community needs.

Today, our Women Helping Women focus guides our community impact efforts. Through the Community Grants Program, JLNV invests in local organizations and initiatives that expand access to essential services and professional development opportunities for women and families and promote economic stability in Northern Virginia.

We are truly thankful to be recognized by federal, state, and local government leaders and offices across Northern Virginia in honor of Find the Good Day.

These proclamations and letters of recognition are rooted in the stories, service, and community impact captured in our Community Impact Report, and serve as a meaningful celebration of the work happening throughout our League.

Behind the scenes, Kirin K., our Advocacy & Public Affairs Manager, has been hard at work securing more than 20 proclamations and letters of recognition from government offices, helping shine a light on the impact JLNV and our members are making across Northern Virginia.

Today, the Junior League of Northern Virginia celebrates the power of service, leadership, and community and the good happening every day across Northern Virginia.

From supporting period equity through Period Pantries, helping local organizations strengthen their impact through Community Grants, to creating opportunities for women to develop their leadership and serve their communities, JLNV members are finding ways to turn their time, talents, and passion into meaningful action.

Find the Good Day is a reminder that positive change can start anywhere: with a volunteer giving their time, a neighbor lending a helping hand, an organization addressing a community need, or a group of women coming together to make a difference.

Today, we invite you to find the good happening in your community, celebrate those making it possible, and consider how you can be part of it. ✨

Today, we pause to remember and honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and the many heroes who responded with courage, compassion and selflessness.

For those of us in Northern Virginia, the memory of that day is especially close to home. The Pentagon, a landmark and part of the community we call home, was one of the sites attacked that morning. We remember the lives lost, the first responders who answered the call, and the families, friends and communities forever changed.

May we continue to honor their legacy through acts of service, kindness and a commitment to supporting the communities we call home. We remember. We honor.

Community impact can look like many things, including rolling up our sleeves and getting to work.

Our Junior League of Northern Virginia volunteers recently spent a day with Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area, helping reorganize office spaces and supporting their ReFiber process to help give clothing a second life.

From organizing behind the scenes to supporting programs that serve our community, every helping hand makes a difference. We’re proud to volunteer, connect, and contribute wherever we’re needed.
