Come join us for a fun, relaxing day of hanging out, arts & crafts, and board games TOMORROW, July 19th from 1 pm to 5 pm! We will be providing supplies for various arts and crafts, but feel free to bring your own project or supplies as well!

We will also have board games ready for use for anyone not artistically inclined who still wants to join in and chill with friends. Be sure to bring some games from your own collection as well, as ours will be somewhat limited.

In addition, this is a fursuit friendly event!

This is a FREE event, and is all ages! Everyone is welcome. This will take place at the NoVA Prism Center, a locally-run 501(c)(3) organization/community center for q***r folks in Northern VA. The staff at the Prism Center have very generously allowed NoVA Furs to use their facilities for this event for free, so please have the utmost respect for your surroundings, and clean up after yourselves. NoVA Prism Center is also kindly providing light snacks and beverages!

On July 14, we celebrate Nonbinary People's Day, which celebrates and spreads awareness for Nonbinary folks worldwide. But support for our Enby siblings should not be one day only, so here are some ways that you can support nonbinary people throughout the year:

-Avoid using he/she, him/her, etc when writing for an undefined reader. The singular "They" is valid English (and has been since at least the time of Shakespeare!) and is inclusive of all people.

-Avoid using gendered language unnecessarily, even in typically gendered contexts. Instead of "Ladies and Gentlemen" or "boys and girls" try "Folks", "Esteemed guests", "children". For many people, "Sis", "Bro", "Dude", and "Guys" are gendered terms, as well-- We really like "Fam" (short for family) and "Y'all" for addressing folks casually.

-Try using "Sibling", "Parent", and "Relative" as gender neutral family words when you don't 100% know someone's gender (and by that I mean, if they haven't told you-- Don't assume based on looks)

-Finally, remember that our Nonbinary friends are not AGAB-lite! In other words, a nonbinary person who was assumed female at birth isn't a "confused woman" or a "tomboy", and a nonbinary person who was assumed male at birth isn't an "effeminate man" or "metrosexual".

Additionally, there are nonbinary people of all AGABs and there isn't one way to "look" nonbinary, so when opening q***r spaces to nonbinary people, be respectful of the incredible diversity within the nonbinary umbrella.
