This Labor Day, in America, while many of us are…

🔥 Grilling with family
🏈 Watching football
🚗 Enjoying a long weekend
🌽 Celebrating the end of summer

Families in Vietnam are…

🌾Searching our farming fields for unexploded bombs
💣 Scanning for unexploded ordnances
🦿 Rebuilding livelihoods after injuries and disabilities
🌱 Teaching our children how to identify danger

More than 50 years after the war ended, its legacy can still affect where people work, farm, and build their futures.

Friends of Project RENEW is helping change that by clearing dangerous unexploded ordnance, supporting people living with disabilities, educating children and communities, and helping families safely use their land again.

This Labor Day, while we relax, we think of those who don't have that option.

September 5 is International Charity Day.

What does a donation to Friends of Project Renew mean.

⭐$240 helps clear an acre of land of dangerous unexploded ordnance.

⭐$230 helps provide a new prosthetic limb for an amputee.

⭐$500 helps provide transportation for a school to visit the Project RENEW Mine Action Visitor Center, where children learn how to recognize cluster bombs and other explosives, and what to do if they encounter them.

This International Day of Charity, help us build a safer future for the children and families of Vietnam.

Thank you for being a Friend of Project RENEW.

September is National Preparedness Month. Here in the U.S., preparedness might mean having an emergency kit, knowing your evacuation route, or making a family communication plan.

In Quảng Trị, Vietnam, preparedness can mean knowing what to do when you encounter something left behind by war.

Project RENEW teaches children and communities how to recognize and safely respond to unexploded ordnance, because knowing what to do can save a life.

It's our anniversary! 🥂

25 years ago, Project RENEW began with 1 mission: to help the people of Vietnam live safely and rebuild their lives in communities still affected by the legacy of the American-Vietnam War.

Over the past 25 years, we've:
🥦Cleared approximately 8,650 acres of land
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦Educated children and communities at the Project RENEW Mine Action Visitor Center in Quảng Trị
♿Supported people living with disabilities
💪Provided prosthetics and rehabilitation, including over 3,000 artificial limbs
📱Introduced a new app, RENEW AR to identify potential threats
⭐Creating opportunities for families to build safer, more secure futures.

Help us continue our mission. Donate $25 for 25 years to Friends of Project RENEW, and celebrate growth with us!

🍊 DID YOU KNOW?

Agent Orange wasn't orange.

Its name came from the orange stripe painted on the barrels used to identify the herbicide. One of the main components was contaminated with TCDD, a highly toxic form of dioxin, which is a major reason for the serious health and environmental concerns associated with Agent Orange exposure.

More than 11 million gallons of Agent Orange were sprayed during the Vietnam War, and its legacy continues to affect Vietnamese communities today.

The average American eats roughly 30 pounds of rice a year.

Vietnam is one of the world’s major rice-producing countries, and rice farming is central to life in rural Vietnam. But in Quảng Trị, farmers can still encounter unexploded bombs while plowing, clearing grass, or preparing fields for a new crop.

In 2025, RENEW/NPA teams cleared 250,000 square meters of farmland before rice planting and found 19 cluster bombs and 13 other explosive devices in just three days.

What happens after land is cleared by our UXO teams?

We met Nguyễn Sư Tâm just after NPA/RENEW clearance teams found and safely destroyed an artillery shell right in his garden in Thuỷ Trung village. He can now safely continue his peanut growing operation without risk.

Last week, two emergency calls were made throughout Southern Vietnam.

REWNEW's mobile Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to two calls from Quảng Trị local residents in quick succession, both through the provincial UXO hotline.

A 60mm mortar round and an M79 round were safely cleared.

No lives were lost... this time.

Read more about the incredible removal.
