Wind is one of the most critical — and hardest to predict — drivers of catastrophic wildfires.

Trained on terabytes of publicly available meteorological data using our supercomputer: SuperPOD, our new AI tool Ponderosa dramatically improves wind forecasts for wildfire management.

By feeding richer wind data into existing weather models and visualizing results on geospatial maps, Ponderosa helps officials better anticipate wildfire spread and protect communities. http://spklr.io/6183EMZIS

Mark Peters’ career began with a geology degree from Auburn University and grew into a life’s work applying science and technology in service to the nation.

A foundation of curiosity and analytical rigor has guided him across national laboratories, federal leadership, and now MITRE.

His journey is a reminder to graduates that a STEM education can be more than a field of study. It can be a foundation for leadership, public service, and impact at national scale.

From Auburn geology to leading one of the nation's most influential science and technology organizations, Mark Peters ('86), came back to the Plains to share his message with our newest graduates.

Now CEO of MITRE, a nonprofit tech company, Peters reminded graduates that a scientific education is preparation for leadership. "My education taught me how to think. You learn how to approach a problem with curiosity and from all different angles."
