The ongoing "Mascoutah Indians," expansion at MHS is a major success story for local organized labor, the primary workforce behind the high school's new athletic and academic infrastructure.
The centerpieces of this expansion are the all-new baseball and softball build-out upgrades west of the football stadium (MHS student video debu below).
Economic Impact for the Union
Project Scale: The athletic complex alone is a $5M to $7M project, providing thousands of man-hours for local union members.
Civil Infrastructure: They manage the groundwork for the new access roads and expanded concrete parking lots.
Concrete & Site Work: Laborers have been responsible for all concrete coring, drilling, and sawing, alone with tending to masons for new structures like dugouts and ticket booths.
Championship Venues: The complex features dedicated stadiums for both baseball and softball with premium field lighting for evening events.
Safety & Spectators: Upgrades include recessed dugouts for player safety and modern seating options, such as chairback seats, bleachers, and fan-friendly berm seating in the outfields.
Multi-Purpose Use: The outfields utilize 10-yard striped turf, allowing the space to be used for football, soccer, and other community activities outside of the diamond sports seasons.
Roads, Parking, & Groundwork
Substantial civil engineering and groundwork are being completed to connect these new fields to the main campus.
New Road Access: A brand-new road has been constructed to handle the increased traffic flow to the west side of the campus.
Expanded Parking: The project includes significantly increased parking capacity located directly adjacent to the softball and baseball facilities.
Traffic Management: (MHS student video in comment secrion) As of April 2026, the district has transitioned all bus pickup and drop-off to the West side of the school (entering through Door 14/the athletic entrance) to better utilize this new infrastructure.
Integrated Infrastructure: The site work includes new sidewalks, lighting, and specialized drainage systems to support the new turf fields.
These new expansions and new additions are courtesy of an enormous combination of skills and talent that very much includes Mascoutah Laborers out of Local 742. โ๏ธ๐๐ผ
