Celebrating Pride and Community at the Lost River Farmers Market!

Saturday, June 13, could not have been a more beautiful day for the annual Pride Festival hosted by Lost River Pride at the Lost River Farmers Market.

EWVCF Board Member Jen Rolston and Associate Director Amy Pancake attended the event, where they enjoyed greeting attendees and sharing information about the Foundation’s work. Visitors to the EWVCF table also had the opportunity to create bracelets.

A highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of the Lost River Pride Scholarship, administered by EWVCF, to Petersburg High School graduate Gwyn Nuzum.

What a special scholarship season it has been! 🎓

Recently, scholarship recipient Alice Petry, a graduate of Musselman High School who helped rekindle the school's dance team, joined scholarship reviewer Patty Austin and our Scholarship Program Manager, Karin Hammann Dunn, on Panhandle Live to share the impact of local scholarships.

Alice reflected on receiving three scholarships and the memorable moment she shared with her mother when the awards were announced during senior awards day.
This year, thanks to the generosity of our donors and fundholders, more than $320,000 in scholarships was awarded to 121 students across our five-county
area.

Congratulations to Alice and all of our scholarship recipients as they take the next step in their educational journeys. We are honored to be part of their stories and grateful to the donors who help make these opportunities possible.

South Branch Elementary Leadership Day

Leadership, learning, and student pride were on full display at South Branch Elementary School’s Leadership Day and Showcase of Learning!

Using the Leader in Me curriculum, rooted in the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, students confidently shared their growth, accomplishments, and creativity throughout the year. The student-led event began with an introduction to the school’s vision, mission, and the 7 Habits, followed by a celebratory parade in the gym featuring every student and their proudest accomplishments. Visitors then toured classrooms where students showcased special projects and demonstrated the skills they’ve been developing all year long.

The excitement, confidence, and leadership shown by these students made the day truly inspiring.

We are proud that a $5,000 grant from the Joy Tutwiler Snyder Memorial Fund helped support this impactful program during the 2025–26 school year.

SWINGING SUPPORT TOWARD STUDENT SUCCESS
Fulton L. Walker, Jr. Scholarship Golf Tourney

A gorgeous day greeted nearly 100 golfers as they took to the course on May 1st in memory of Fulton L. Walker, Jr., long remembered for his achievements both on and off the football field. Through their participation, golfers helped raise funds to expand scholarship opportunities for local students.

Since its inception in 2018, the Fulton L. Walker, Jr. Scholarship has awarded $32,500 to 28 deserving students pursuing their education at West Virginia University.
