Happy Parmigiano Reggiano Day!

NIAF is proud to partner with .na and give the “King of Cheeses” its moment to shine at our 51st Anniversary Gala in Washington, DC.

Guests enjoyed Parmigiano Reggiano the best way possible: freshly cracked straight from the wheel. We also auctioned off a full wheel branded with the NIAF seal, and one lucky winner took it home while supporting NIAF’s mission.

Grazie to Parmigiano Reggiano for helping us celebrate 51 years of honoring Italian and Italian American excellence!

On This Day in History: Trieste Rejoins Italy 🇮🇹

On October 26, 1954, Italian troops entered Trieste, returning the city to Italian administration after nearly a decade of postwar uncertainty.

After World War II, the 1947 Treaty of Paris created the Free Territory of Trieste, divided into two zones. Zone A, which included the city, was placed under British and American military administration, while Zone B was administered by Yugoslavia.

The London Memorandum, signed on October 5, 1954, transferred the administration of Zone A to Italy. Three weeks later, crowds filled Piazza Unità d’Italia in Trieste to welcome the arriving troops. The border was formally settled by the Treaty of Osimo in 1975.

Today, Trieste is the capital of Friuli Venezia Giulia and one of Italy’s great port cities, shaped by Italian, Austrian, and Slavic influences and known for its café culture, literary history, and as the birthplace of illy coffee.

This Italian Heritage Month, we remember a pivotal chapter in modern Italian history.

Mayor Jackie Veasy and Township Council used a portion of this week's Council Meeting to present an official proclamation recognizing October as Italian American Heritage Month!

Italian American Heritage Month helps celebrate the achievements of Italian Americans while honoring the rich history, language, and cultural traditions of Italy. Generations of Italian Americans have made countless contributions to our nation through business, education, public service, the arts, civic involvement, cuisine and so much more!

Mayor and Council also used the moment as an opportunity to spotlight the Sons of Italy Marlton Lodge 2315, with several members on hand to accept the proclamation.

Founded in 1974, The Marlton Sons and Daughters of Italy has worked for decades as a social, cultural and philanthropic organization to preserve Italian American traditions, culture, history and heritage. The organization is also well known for being strong supporters of many local community events and charities.

Thank you again to the group’s members for helping make Evesham a stronger, more vibrant place to call home on behalf of Mayor Veasy, Evesham Township Deputy Mayor Heather Cooper, Evesham Councilwoman Dr. Krystal Hunter, Councilman Joe Fisicaro, Jr. and Councilman Christian Smith.

Finally, we remind everyone to mark their calendars for Evesham’s second-annual Italian American Heritage Street Festival coming up on Oct. 24 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Cooper Avenue! Join us for a fantastic day of authentic food, cultural performances, and community fun!

🌹Today is the Feast of Saint Teresa of Avila

Saint Teresa reminds us that true reform begins within the heart. Her life of deep prayer, humility, and courage transformed the Carmelite Order and continues to inspire souls to seek intimate union with God. Her famous words echo across time:
"Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you. All things are passing away: God never changes. Patience obtains all things. Whoever has God lacks nothing; God alone suffices."
Prayer:
O God, who through Your Spirit raised up Saint Teresa of Jesus to show the Church the way to perfection, grant that we may always be nourished by her spiritual teaching and enkindled with a desire for holiness.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, forever and ever. Amen. 🙏
