We had a very Spirt-led worship today: with the substitute organist MIA, and the mike not working, we sang for God’s glory! we love the choir and Timothy Goliger now even more 😁

A great church historian of the UCC traditions, a pastor, and a trailblazer for ordained women in our denomination has died. May God crown her with the Crown of Glory!

🕯️ With deep gratitude and sorrow, we remember the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Zikmund—educator, historian, minister, and author—who died Monday, August 17 at the age of 87. Her wisdom, scholarship, and unwavering commitment to the United Church of Christ shaped generations and will continue to inspire all who seek justice, inclusion, and faithfulness.

Susan McIver Mother's Funeral will take place on Wednesday at 10 AM at St. Bernadette's Roman Catholic Church in Northborough. While the obituary says "private" Susan said that members and friends from First Church are family and are welcome to attend. May God crown her with the Crown of Glory!

Pastor Kaz mentioned today in his sermon the bridge the Emperor Caligula built to "walk on water" This is what the Roman historian Suetonius wrote about the event and Caligula: "At the dedication of the bridge that he contrived, after inviting a number to come to him from the shore, all of the sudden he had them all thrown overboard; and when some caught hold of the rudders of the ships, he pushed them off into the sea with boathooks and oars." Now contrast Caligula (who thought himself divine) with Jesus: True God and Son of God.

There were 13 Congregationalists & 12 Presbyterians out of the 56 signatories to the Declaration of Independence. Today, 250 years later First Church in Marlborough showed up to thank God for that legacy & celebrate with the town. Thanks to an amazing team that made it possible! Despite the fact that the Department of Defense dropped United Church of Christ from a list of recognized religions for servicemen and women designations two days ago, rest assured that First Church of Marlborough has been in our town since its founding (hence our name) and we WILL be worshipping tomorrow at 10 AM Everyone is welcome - Secretary Pete Hegseth too!
