❗️ UPDATE! STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS TODAY-TONIGHT-

We are expecting a couple of rounds of strong to severe storms today and into the overnight. Round 1 will be during the afternoon with hail, and damaging winds being the main risks. A tornado isn't entirely ruled out though the risk is very low.

Round 2 will be overnight after 10 PM with the primary risk being damaging straight line winds up to 70 MPH. This round will be more widespread and flash flooding may become a primary concern as we shift into the overnight and early AM on Sunday.

There will be chances for showers and thunderstorms late tonight through Tuesday night as a cold front moves through the area. A few of these storms may be severe, capable of produce large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes. There remains some uncertainty on how widespread and the timing of the severe weather because of the speed of the cold front. Check back frequently for updates to the forecast the next few days.

⚡️7:35PM MONDAY UPDATE: The "cap" has held across Southern Illinois so far, keeping storms to a minimum. As the main forcing arrives this evening, a line of storms will track across Southern Illinois. There is still plenty of energy left, so I do expect some of these storms to be severe with hail, scattered damaging winds, and potentially a few tornadoes. The image below is the estimated timing of the line moving through the region. By midnight, storms should END in Southern Illinois.

🎥I will be LIVE on Facebook and YouTube when these storms are approaching Southern Illinois. Stay tuned!
