Good Catch Dog Rescue

Good Catch Dog Rescue We are a small rescue who helps to combat the local stray dog population in South Texas. We're small but we're mighty.

Good Catch Dog Rescue came to fruition after years of living in South Texas and not seeing an end to the overpopulation of unwanted companions. Every dog we've rescued has left us with reason to go back for more and each of them has been deemed a good catch!

Collette is up for adoption! She's done amazing here in foster care and she'll do even better in a forever home! Only 17 pounds and 2 1/2 years old. We think she may have some Dachshund in there but she won't share her secret recipe.
Kid friendly, dog friendly, cats not allowed!
Check out her photos and please share. She deserves a last name!
(Buddy bonus: if anyone is looking for two, Arby is her loyal sidekick).

This wiry friend is Collette, also known as Colletti Confetti. She's a 2½ year old wire haired dachshund terrier mix and she weighs 17 pounds.Collette was found as a stray and stuck in our local County shelter for far too long without being seen. We originally went to the shelter to save another do...

Sunny’s “suns” are almost 12 weeks old and will soon be ready to find their forever families.
They’re tiny tikes and will likely be under 30lbs when full grown.
Momma Sunny is only 12 pounds and doing amazing in her new foster home with Liz and Chris.
All 4 of these pups were made for 4 special homes.

Late Friday afternoon, I saw a post from Guadalupe County about this little singleton puppy who had been picked up as a stray. I was told his hold would be up this morning, so after waiting all weekend and through the holiday, I headed to the shelter to rescue “Sherpa”!
At only 7 lbs and about 8 weeks old, Sherpa is an Australian Shepherd puppy who was absolutely riddled with fleas. Poor little guy couldn’t stop scratching, so as soon as he arrived home, he got a nice warm bath and a Capstar.
Sherpa is one smart pup already. He stays close by my side and prefers going potty outdoors, something that’s not uncommon for puppies who’ve never lived inside before.
Today begins Sherpa’s story in rescue with Good Catch. We look forward to finding him an active family to love and grow with. Aussies are such wonderful, loyal companions for the right home. ❤️

Thank you, Liz and Chris, for fostering Sunny!
Some momma dogs don’t always know when their job is done and that it’s okay to finally take a moment for themselves. Even though Sunny had her own cozy space in our house while her three 10-week-old pups stayed in the barn, they were still all she could think about anytime it was time to go outside.
Just like Gloria, Sunny’s true personality is finally starting to shine through, and we can’t wait to discover all the little quirks and tricks she’s been hiding beneath that worried brow.

The DNA results are in for Ray- one of Sunny’s boys and they tell so much of Sunny’s story too.

By the looks of the results and the relatives, Sunny appears to be a Chihuahua/Poodle mix, while the puppies’ father was likely a much larger Shepherd/Aussie mix. Seeing that contrast in size is heartbreaking, because it paints a picture of just how vulnerable Sunny was. She was such a small dog, exposed and unprotected, and likely bred by a dog many times her size.

And after carrying and delivering those puppies, she was dumped on the side of the road in a crate with her babies.

Sunny deserved safety, care and protection, not abandonment. But despite everything she’s been through, she’s gentle, loving and devoted to her pups. We’re so grateful she’s now safe, healthy and spayed. She will never see that side of neglect again.

Tomorrow, Sunny will move into our friend Liz’s home to begin life as an independent foster dog, not a momma constantly checking on her 10-week-old puppies. She deserves the chance to rest, be cared for and just be a dog for once. Soon, we’ll find her the family that deserves such a special girl.

Meanwhile, Ray, Cyrus and Leo are thriving here. They’re loving the extra space and enjoying their new puppy friends (Gloria’s crew) through the fence. They’ll be ready for homes soon and now that we have a better idea of how big they may get, it’ll help us find the right matches for them too.

The last available of Gloria’s 6 pups are her 3 girls. Lana, Inez and Aster are all looking for homes and their pictures and bios can be found on our website.
Each of these beauties brings their own unique character to the table. Lana is a natural born alpha. She is the leader of her pack and has consistently been the biggest in her litter. Inez is a go with the flow kind of pup. She plays with everyone and enjoys any toy you give her. Aster is a wait and see puppy. She’ll observe from afar and join in when she sees the coast is clear. She often can be found under the dog cot or inside their puppy pipe. She may be a little shy, but she loves being loved on and we give it to her freely.
They turn 9 weeks on Wednesday and can go home the following week.

Look at all of these happy peeps and pups!!!! Gidget, Iris and Boone have all made it home safely to their new families thanks to Freedom Run Express. We could NOT do this without you girls.
Thank you to everyone who supported these babies and Good Catch and thank you to our adopters who believed in us and their chosen pup.

Three Good Catch pups left on transport today. Gidget, Iris and Boone are all headed to their new homes up North and the house just isn’t the same tonight.
Who knew a 6-pound Shih Tzu could leave such a large void? Or that two little bully babies, who grew up here from 6 weeks old to 4 1/2 months, would become such staples in our daily routine that even the other dogs are still looking for them?
But as bittersweet as goodbyes can be, the good always outweighs the sadness. We feel SO grateful to have helped these babies find loving homes while also making room for more needy souls waiting for their chance.
With transport day behind us, Collette and Arby have officially graduated from the Good Catch building into the dog room in our house. Collette acts like she’s lived here in another life and settled in immediately, completely confident in her place. Arby, on the other hand, is still trying to figure out this whole “domestication” thing. After spending the last six weeks of his life kenneled at the shelter, we’re determined to show him that our crates are meant for comfort and training, not confinement or punishment.

We never forget the dogs we’ve loved, but somehow there’s always room in our hearts to adore some more.
