Recent headlines are alarming: Metro Atlanta leads the nation in eviction filings. According to Princeton University's Eviction Lab, landlords filed more than 142,000 eviction cases across Cobb and surrounding counties over the past 12 months—24 filings for every 100 renter households.

📚 The Comfort of a Good Book 💚

A big thank-you to Emma Coven and her Walton High School-based group, Courage Through Chapters (CTC), for donating 100 books for children and adults to The Center for Family Resources!

CTC is a student-led organization dedicated to collecting and donating books to children and families going through challenging times. Their generosity will bring comfort, joy and the power of reading to the families we serve.

At our Family Cupboard Choice Pantry, our on-site play area gives young children a place to play while their parents shop for food. Now, thanks to CTC, children will have even more books to explore and the opportunity to choose a book to take home and make their own. 📖

Thank you, Emma and Courage Through Chapters, for reminding us that a book can open doors, spark imagination and make a difficult day a little brighter. We’re grateful to have you as part of our community! 💚

We had a great week visiting two of our school partners in Thanks for Giving! We are very excited to have Dodgen Middle School as a host for our food drive and to help us celebrate 40 years of Thanks for Giving!

Then we visited Nickajack Elementary for career day and shared with the students all about what it's like to work at The Center for Family Resources. The students are so amazing asking great questions and showing deep empathy for families in our community who are struggling.

Thank you to both schools for the opportunity to meet you and for helping us to feed more than 1,100 children and families this Thanksgiving!

Metro Atlanta leads the nation in eviction filings—but what do those numbers really tell us about housing stability?

In a new opinion editorial for the Marietta Daily Journal, Melanie Kagan, CEO of The Center for Family Resources, looks beyond the headlines to examine what happens between an eviction filing and a family losing its home. She shares why early intervention matters, what we’ve learned through Cobb County’s Housing Stability Court, and why investing in solutions that prevent homelessness should be a community priority.

Because the outcome that should concern us most isn't an eviction filing. It's a preventable episode of homelessness.
