Glen Doherty was one of four Americans killed in a terror attack that began on 9/11/12 in Benghazi, Libya. Glen fought hard throughout the night and saved m

any before succumbing to a mortar attack in the early hours of September 12th. Glen died serving with men he respected, protecting the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and doing something he loved. He is an American Hero to those who did not know him; but for those who did he is a best friend who leaves behind a giant hole in our hearts.

Introducing GDMF Scholar Christopher McBride.

Christopher McBride is a former Navy SEAL now pursuing an MBA at UC Berkeley Haas, focused on translating his military leadership into meaningful civilian impact. He served with SEAL Team 3, Naval Special Warfare Group 1, and SEAL Delivery Vehicle Team 1, leading combat operations against ISIS during Operation Inherent Resolve and later developing strategic initiatives as a platoon commander. These experiences strengthened his ability to lead under pressure, think strategically, and innovate in complex environments.

At Haas, Christopher is developing expertise in entrepreneurship and social innovation with the goal of launching ventures that support veterans transitioning to civilian life. He aims to create programs that provide mentorship, workforce development, and education to help veterans overcome employment and reintegration challenges. Having personally experienced these obstacles and mentored other SEALs through them, he is committed to building solutions that empower service members to find new purpose and success beyond the military.

Introducing GDMF Scholar, Kenneth MacDonald.

Kenneth, a Massachusetts native and former Navy SEAL, first learned about Glen Doherty during his time training with SEAL Team Ten. Like Glen, he was drawn to service through adventure, curiosity, and purpose, serving as both a SOCM medic and sniper. After leaving the Navy, Kenneth faced the challenges of supporting a young family and finding meaning outside the military.

His turning point came when he began working at an elementary school, supporting students with autism and coaching basketball. The experience reignited his sense of purpose and inspired him to pursue a career in education. Now working toward a bachelor’s degree in History and Secondary Education, Kenneth aims to teach social studies and inspire students to connect with the world around them. The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation Scholarship would help him continue this path—carrying forward Glen’s legacy of service, mentorship, and lifelong learning.
