Glen Doherty was one of four Americans killed in a terror attack that began on 9/11/12 in Benghazi, Libya. Glen fought hard throughout the night and saved many before succumbing to a mortar attack in the early hours of September 12th. Glen died serving with men he respected, protecting the freedoms we enjoy as Americans and doing something he loved. He is an American Hero to those who did not know him; but for those who did he is a best friend who leaves behind a giant hole in our hearts.

Team GDMF NYC = Jeff Yarvis
Jeff is honored to run the New York City Marathon in support of the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation. A 34-year Army veteran, combat veteran, retired Colonel, and Bronze Star recipient, Jeff has dedicated his career to serving warriors and supporting those impacted by the visible and invisible wounds of war. His work as a military social work practitioner, researcher, and professor has focused on improving care for veterans and their families.

While Jeff never had the opportunity to meet Glen, he sees in Glen the same spirit of service, courage, and commitment embodied by the warriors he served alongside and cared for throughout his career. With a proud family tradition of military service, Jeff is deeply connected to the Foundation’s mission and honored to run in Glen’s name while supporting the veteran community he has dedicated his life to serving.

Team GDMF NYC = Lisa Simmons
Lisa’s connection to the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation runs deep. A Woburn resident, she has supported the Foundation through the GDMF Road Race and has followed Glen’s story since her time as a producer at WCVB-TV, where she covered the 2012 attack extensively. That experience strengthened her commitment to honoring those who have lost their lives to violence and supporting the families and communities left behind.

After the Boston Marathon bombing, Lisa discovered running as a way to give back and became deeply involved with Team MR8. Today, she is honored to continue that tradition of service by running the New York City Marathon in support of GDMF. Through her work and community involvement, Lisa has seen the importance of supporting veterans and is proud to help honor Glen’s legacy and the sacrifices of those who serve.

Team GDMF NYC = Kate Provencher
Kate comes from a family deeply rooted in military service, with her husband having served over 20 years on active duty, including time with the 75th Ranger Regiment, and her brothers also serving in the U.S. Navy. She is incredibly proud of her family’s dedication and the sacrifices they have made in service to our country.

With a deep passion for supporting the military community, Kate is honored to run the New York City Marathon in support of the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation. After serving in the U.S. Army and recently transitioning to civilian life, Hanna understands firsthand the challenges many veterans face as they begin their next chapter. Through both her own experience and the experiences of the soldiers she led, she has seen how meaningful the right support can be during that transition.

Ian Murphy = Team GDMF NYC
Growing up in Scituate, Massachusetts, Ian learned about Glen Doherty’s story at a young age and has long admired his legacy of courage and service. Today, his connection to the military community continues through his brother, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy who now serves in the Marine Corps, and his work for a veteran-owned business led by a former Army Ranger.

Ian is proud to run the TCS New York City Marathon in honor of Glen’s legacy while supporting the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation’s mission. He hopes to challenge himself with a personal goal of finishing the race in under three hours while raising funds to support veterans and their families.

Introducing GDMF Scholar, Anthony N.

Anthony, an active duty Navy SEAL preparing for medical retirement due to service-related injuries. As he transitions from active duty, he is focused on supporting his wife and four children while pursuing an MBA at USC Marshall. His goal is to use this education to launch a business benefiting the SEAL community and contribute to organizations dedicated to their well-being.
The Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation resonates with Anthony because of its mission to support Special Operations veterans in their transition to civilian careers. Glen Doherty’s legacy of service, learning, and adventure mirrors the values Anthony strives to uphold. He aims to channel his military experience, leadership, and discipline into endeavors that support his family and give back to the community.

Receiving this scholarship would ease financial burdens and enable Anthony to pursue his educational and professional goals while honoring Glen’s legacy by continuing to serve and support fellow veterans.
