Move4Heather This is a page for my wife Heather and the road that brain cancer has put us on. This fund will create much needed awareness for this orphan form of cancer.

Why the funding matters: Many of the clinical trials (including Neovax) used to treat Glioblastoma patients are funded directly by philanthropy dollars. The research is complex and time-consuming and philanthropic funding allows more research to happen and faster which leads to better patient outcomes. Immunotherapy treatments, like what Heather is receiving, are currently taking 2-3 months to turn around. Ideally, Dr. Reardon would like to expedite these treatments to a 2-3 week timeline as urgency is critical for the patient. Philanthropy dollars allow Dr. Reardon and his team to strategically combine efforts to have the most impact on the patient population. There’s no lack of possibilities but there are limited resources. Philanthropy support can increase resources and allow research to have the biggest impact on patients. The funding will help us continue to advance this Neovax platform and expand it to be more available and more effective for GBM patients.

Something good to start the week 💙
Following up on yesterday's post about Saturday, being at the Worcester Red Sox Brain Tumor Awareness game with my Foundation...Conor asked if it could be just the two of us on the field as he was recognized for his journey with a pediatric brain tumor. They also recognized Heather, which got Conor's mom, thinking about whether she might have been at the hospital with Conor's family back in 2018, when the Boston Celtics came to see the kids during the holiday season...when this all began for them. Michelle sent me the photo last night confirming she was there... Heather right in the background with Conor and his dad. Fast forward to Saturday standing there with him... and a big full circle moment! 🎗️

Some things don't fade and her energy is one of them. So, today - its what I'll focus on. She had a gift for finding the good in almost anything and anywhere, and for the 52 years of her here... of that kind of energy... it leaves a mark. It's still here. It's still ours.

Hi Everyone,
I need to share some unfortunate news.
Last week I had a stress test after experiencing strange heartbeats, shortness of breath, and some intermittent chest pain. I wanted to be fully checked out before the Pan-Mass Challenge, and the doctors have advised me to shut down activities and not ride. There is something going on with my heart.
This was going to be my first PMC ride since Heather passed. This ride had so much meaning behind it, too. It was never just about pushing through the miles. If you’ve ridden the PMC before, you know it’s so much more than a bike ride. Missing the ride, especially this first one since she’s been gone, feels like I’m letting her and everyone who donated down… even though I know I have to listen to the docs and my body.
Still, this mission doesn’t stop and I am far from being counted out. Every single donation made will always go straight to Heather’s fund. Your support continues to fuel the research and the hope that one day no other family has to go through what we did.
Even though I won’t be on my bike and I will be a "reimagined" rider (thanks, Meredith!), my commitment to Heather’s legacy and this fight remains as strong as ever. Thank you for walking (and riding) this journey with me and the girls. Your love and generosity have meant the world to our family.

By now we all know JB was traded to the 76ers. For our family, it's impossible to think about Jaylen and his mom without thinking about Heather.
These pics are from 2016, some of his first days in Boston, when Heather took him to a Revs game. (The girls are so young!) She walked him through Boston schools, community centers, everything he was doing off the court in those early years.
The kindness he has shown to Sammy, Taylor, and our whole family over the years has meant more than he will ever know. Seeing him wear his HW shirt during warmups on random nights after she passed never got old. He didn't have to do any of it, and he did it all with such genuine warmth. That's not something you forget. Ever.
I'm grateful for the connection Heather built with people like him, and with us. That's the legacy that doesn't get traded away.

Also, I'm looking for a home for Heather's old road bike. The last time it was on the road was during her last PMC, and it's time for it to ride again (with a tune up!). I want it to go to someone with some connection to her, her story, her community, her fight.

Hi everyone!
Last month I mentioned that in August I’m riding the Pan-Mass Challenge for Heather. It’s a 2-day, nearly 200-mile bike ride from Wellesley to Provincetown. As always, all funds raised go directly to the Heather Walker Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, supporting the work of Dr. Reardon and brain tumor research.

And here’s the cool part that puts you into action with me — for every donation, I will add a name of your choice to my riding jersey and carry it with me for all 200 miles. If you’ve already donated, just message me the name you’d like honored.

You might not know it, but May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month, and this ride is one way I’m turning awareness into action. Every mile and every dollar supports critical research for families facing brain cancer. Even small gifts make a real difference!!!

This morning marks three years since Heather passed.

I’ve been writing about this day for a while. Reflecting on the past year, the girls, grief, and how to carry it all alone. There has been a lot of growth, but what came out was on the sad side. Then I watched the Boston Marathon, and it reminded me that sadness can be turned into forward motion and something positive.

So, to honor Heather, I’m riding the 2 day Wellesley to Provincetown route in the Pan-Mass Challenge this August! My rider profile: https://profile.pmc.org/pmc/SW0126

The PMC was something she cared about deeply. It was special to both of us. We did it together even after her diagnosis with the Winter Cycle. It meant the world to her, especially after losing her father to leukemia and a friend to Ewing sarcoma.

One of my favorite PMC memories happened in 2001. and what these pictures show. Billy Starr, the PMC founder, told us there was no space left to ride because...surprise...we’d registered late again 😁. Without missing a beat, Heather said, “Fine, we’ll kayak it instead.” And we did. We paddled from Boston to Provincetown that weekend, laughing and having fun the whole way. It became one of those perfect memories I’ll carry forever. Team Rack raised $65,000 that year.

Everyone says it feels like this all happened minutes ago, and it does. But I know every mile I ride in August will be powered and pass just as fast by the love and joy Heather gave us all. As always, every dollar goes directly to the Heather Walker Fund for Glioblastoma Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
