Move4Heather

Move4Heather This is a page for my wife Heather and the road that brain cancer has put us on. This fund will create much needed awareness for this orphan form of cancer.

Post a photo or video with the hashtag of , Challenge 3 friends to do the same and DONATE! All money raised will go directly to the Heather Walker Glioblastoma Fund at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Reardon at Dana Farber Cancer Institute is currently overseeing a clinical trial using immunotherapy to combat Glioblastoma by creating a ground-breaking vaccine to eradicate it. Your dollar

s will have a direct and immediate impact on Heather and hundreds of others who are fighting this very difficult form of brain cancer. Please help us be part of the solution to CREATE MUCH NEEDED AWARENESS and FIND A CURE TOGETHER - PLEASE DONATE TODAY & TAG 3 FRIENDS! Why the funding matters: Many of the clinical trials (including Neovax) used to treat Glioblastoma patients are funded directly by philanthropy dollars. The research is complex and time-consuming and philanthropic funding allows more research to happen and faster which leads to better patient outcomes. Immunotherapy treatments, like what Heather is receiving, are currently taking 2-3 months to turn around. Ideally, Dr. Reardon would like to expedite these treatments to a 2-3 week timeline as urgency is critical for the patient. Philanthropy dollars allow Dr. Reardon and his team to strategically combine efforts to have the most impact on the patient population. There’s no lack of possibilities but there are limited resources. Philanthropy support can increase resources and allow research to have the biggest impact on patients. The funding will help us continue to advance this Neovax platform and expand it to be more available and more effective for GBM patients.

Hi everyone!
Last month I mentioned that in August I’m riding the Pan-Mass Challenge for Heather. It’s a 2-day, nearly 200-mile bike ride from Wellesley to Provincetown. As always, all funds raised go directly to the Heather Walker Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, supporting the work of Dr. Reardon and brain tumor research.

And here’s the cool part that puts you into action with me — for every donation, I will add a name of your choice to my riding jersey and carry it with me for all 200 miles. If you’ve already donated, just message me the name you’d like honored.

You might not know it, but May is Brain Tumor Awareness Month, and this ride is one way I’m turning awareness into action. Every mile and every dollar supports critical research for families facing brain cancer. Even small gifts make a real difference!!!

Thank you for your continued love and support for our family. It means the world.

This morning marks three years since Heather passed.

I’ve been writing about this day for a while. Reflecting on the past year, the girls, grief, and how to carry it all alone. There has been a lot of growth, but what came out was on the sad side. Then I watched the Boston Marathon, and it reminded me that sadness can be turned into forward motion and something positive.

So, to honor Heather, I’m riding the 2 day Wellesley to Provincetown route in the Pan-Mass Challenge this August! My rider profile: https://profile.pmc.org/pmc/SW0126

The PMC was something she cared about deeply. It was special to both of us. We did it together even after her diagnosis with the Winter Cycle. It meant the world to her, especially after losing her father to leukemia and a friend to Ewing sarcoma.

One of my favorite PMC memories happened in 2001. and what these pictures show. Billy Starr, the PMC founder, told us there was no space left to ride because...surprise...we’d registered late again 😁. Without missing a beat, Heather said, “Fine, we’ll kayak it instead.” And we did. We paddled from Boston to Provincetown that weekend, laughing and having fun the whole way. It became one of those perfect memories I’ll carry forever. Team Rack raised $65,000 that year.

Everyone says it feels like this all happened minutes ago, and it does. But I know every mile I ride in August will be powered and pass just as fast by the love and joy Heather gave us all. As always, every dollar goes directly to the Heather Walker Fund for Glioblastoma Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Your support helps push research forward and brings real hope to families facing this disease. Please honor Heather with me. If you’re able, consider donating to my ride: https://profile.pmc.org/pmc/SW0126

One more thing - I will be getting 2 HW riding jersey's that will have space to invite people to sign to honor someone they know who has been touched by cancer. I'll have more on that later, but know I would be honored to carry their names along with Heather.

ONWARD to the Pan-Mass Challenge!
💚💔

Help me wish a Happy 17th Birthday to Sammy!

Watching you turn another year older has been amazing and I’m so grateful to be your dad and to celebrate you today.
I know your thoughts are also with your mom, on your special day. You know how she loved you with her whole heart, and I know she’s smiling down on you, proud of the young woman you’ve become. Our world has changed, and navigating grief has had its real ups and downs. But through it all, you’ve shown such strength and resilience.
So, here’s to a year filled with more laughter, dreams coming true, and all the happiness you deserve.

I love you, Sammy. Happy Birthday!

Hi Everyone! I wanted to share something special from this past weekend that I think you should read and see. It was a busy but beautiful weekend. Taylor had a volleyball tournament (the Grams came to watch and she played great!), and as part of her college application process for next year, Sammy started volunteering at Celtics Community events.

On Saturday, at a Wellness Event in Dorchester, like the ones Heather would attend, something special happened. A young man who Heather worked with years ago, when he was just a little boy, looked at Sammy and told her how much he remembered Heather and how kind she always was. I wish I had been there to see that moment, but I'm sure it felt like Heather was standing right beside Sammy and this now-grown young man.

Then on Sunday, Sammy got to help with the Heroes Among Us ceremony at the Boston Celtics game, where they honored a brave little boy who had passed from cancer. Knowing that she got to interact with the family hours before and then watching her walk them out onto the parquet with Dave and Wura was an amazing moment that I am deeply gretful for. I wish Heather could see Sammy stepping up like this, continuing to show strength and kindness, especially to families who know this pain. She would be so incredibly proud and would be loudly cheering her onward.

Hi Everyone! As many of you know, Heather's love for children, especially those facing the toughest battles, was endless, and it lives on in the kindness we share through our continued efforts to help.

For Childhood Cancer Day on February 15th (and we all know what's on the 14th), my colleagues and I at the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation came up with a special way to help these incredible kids. We're collecting short online messages of hope to send directly to children with brain cancer/tumors and their families. A simple note like "You're so strong," "Big hugs your way," or "You've got this, superstar" can remind them they're loved and never alone during those long hospital days and scary treatments.

You can honor Heather by spreading her kindness! The girls and I know how much hope means and our message could be the light in a child's day. Add yours today and please....share this! 💛

Hi Everyone! During Move4Heather Night, the Boston Celtics players honored Heather by wearing special HW warm-up gear. Now, that same gear—autographed by the players who wore it—is up for auction! Just like last year, there are no minimum bids, and all proceeds will benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The auction ends on Monday at 11:59pm so if you win, your item should arrive before Christmas!

This is your chance to own a meaningful piece of that meaningful night while making a real difference. Bid on the signed warm-up gear worn by your favorite Celtic and support PBTF’s vital work for kids and families facing brain cancer. It’s a true win-win, keeping Heather’s light shining bright for others! Happy Holidays! 💚☘️

I wasn’t going to post today. Thanksgiving speaks for itself.

Then some truly good news came in first thing. The kind of news that shifts things, brings a sense of relief, and reminds you what really matters. On a day built around gratitude, that feels especially meaningful.

So, I am wishing everyone a Thanksgiving filled with good news, full hearts, and things worth being thankful for!

And thank you to a great friend. I know today is going to be extra special. Enjoy every second.

Hi everyone! Over the past 20 years, I’ve had many unforgettable moments in the Garden- including two NBA championships- but last night tops them all. It was emotional, moving, uplifting, and absolutely incredible to see an arena full of love for Heather, and for every child and family facing a brain tumor. From the standing ovations to the moments of reflection, the TD Garden truly felt like one family. Thank you to my Boston Celtics family for continuing to stand with us and carrying Heather’s light forward. I could write a novel based on how thankful I am for all you. Onward!

We’ll honor Heather, raise critical awareness for brain cancer/tumors, and raise funds to support families and research through the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. Throughout the night, there will be special moments celebrating her legacy and simple ways that make a real difference for families attending. Tip: don't miss the National Anthem singer, Molly Oldham. She is a 2x brain cancer survivor and trying to make it on Broadway! Same for the Hero Among Us! If you can join, it would mean a lot and keep Heather’s light helping others. ☘️☘️☘️

Help me wish a Happy 14th Birthday to Taylor!!!! You are so much like mommy and in all the best ways - kind to everyone, brave (except for bugs), and full of light (after 13 hours of sleep). Know she would be so proud of the young woman you’re becoming, and so am I. Your journey has purpose, and you were made for it because of how strong you are. Keep shining, keep leading with your heart, and know you are deeply loved today and every day! Here’s to everything ahead of you!!!

Hi Everyone! There are moments in life that stay with us forever - conversations we wish could have lasted longer, goodbyes that came too soon. Like many of you who have been on a cancer journey, we spent hours hoping for a breakthrough that could give us more time. That's why I'm so excited to share some promising news.

Dr. Joelle Straehla, a pediatric oncologist at Seattle Children's, is making real progress using tiny particles - nanotechnology - to help cancer treatments reach brain tumors in kids. This isn't just game-changing for children; it could transform how we treat brain cancer in everyone. To put this into context - the blood brain barrier might as well be a wall a million miles high that you must climb to deliver your message. My heart is full knowing that my foundation - Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation - is helping push this research forward. It's exactly the kind of innovative, life-changing work we hoped for when Heather was fighting. Onward!
