Today closes out SCI Awareness Month, and we're proud to share our publication: Access in Action.

A spinal cord injury happens in a single moment. What happens next depends on access: the right care, the right equipment, a home that works, a community that shows up.

We are proud to share that for the second straight year, the TESF Courage Cup raised more than $250,000 to advance comprehensive and compassionate care for those living with paralysis and the loved ones who support them.

An incredible morning at the Garden was followed by a celebratory lunch and awards reception at Banners Kitchen & Tap, where GV Wattendorf, President of GVW, Incorporated, received the Redefining Possible Award for his continued support of our mission. Thank you to Senator Brady's Chief of Staff, Tobias Cowans, and Legislative Director, Jason Wentworth, as well as State Representative David Biele, for joining us on one of the most meaningful days of our year.

Proud to partner with Jack Trottier Foundation to make this happen for Hunter and his family!

Hunter Berube was riding his ATV up a hill when he flipped backward causing the ATV to land on him. He sustained a C6 incomplete spinal injury and spent several months at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital.

JTF was grateful to team up with The Thomas E. Smith Foundation to provide Hunter with a ramp to his home before he was discharged. Given the shorter inpatient stays, the ramp was quickly approved and installed the day before he came home.

When asked about transitioning back home from the hospital, Hunter said, “What stuck out the most to me coming home from Spaulding was being away from a community of people all going through similar situations. It’s tough watching everyone live their lives around you once you come home but beautiful when you have family and friends willing to mold their lives around you.”

Earlier this month, we joined researchers, advocates, and legislators at the Massachusetts State House for Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Day, where we were honored to accept a proclamation signed by Governor Maura Healey.

Thank you to Massachusetts Walks Again and sciboston for convening the community, and to the offices of Senator Michael Brady and Governor Healey, along with State Representative David Biele for keeping the needs of individuals and families affected by spinal cord injury on the Commonwealth's agenda.

🔹 Meet Anne 🔹
Anne is a full-time nurse and a professional physically integrated dancer living with a spinal cord injury.

Through our Stronger Together Grant Program, Anne has been able to advance her rehabilitation beyond conventional therapies, working with specialized Pilates instructors and using clinical equipment to build strength for the stage and endurance for everyday life.

In her own words:
"I am overwhelmed with gratitude for all of you and all of your donors. This has come at a very special time in my life and I will forever be thankful for this opportunity… With the support of the TESF, I am taking steps to become an internationally accredited Pilates instructor (PMA-ITTAP) in an effort to share with others the gift of healing Pilates has given me."

Anne, we can't wait to see where this next chapter takes you. 💚💙
