🎗September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month for a reason.

🎗Gold buses, gold #2 pencils, and a new year with endless possibilities ahead. The first day of school is a milestone for many children. For families facing childhood cancer or for those who have lost a child to cancer, it can also be a time of worry, anxiety, and great sadness. Time is moving forward and our children are not.

🎗Some children will not be packing backpacks, boarding a bus, or starting school. Instead, they are in a hospital receiving chemo, having a procedure, or just feel too sick or worried to make it through the school day. This is their reality.

🎗Grieving parents are seeing their children’s friends grow into another year of learning and discovery. During this back-to-school season our hearts are with the families who are feeling this isolating pain.

🎗We want to share with those outside of our community that September isn't just another month and another cause; it is an awareness opportunity that cancer disrupts or steals a childhood.

🙋‍♀️🎗RAISE YOUR HAND

Every spring, we hold our annual gifting program, and it’s intentional.

We want families to have something meaningful they can wear, share, and use to start conversations about childhood cancer all year long, and especially during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in September.

This year, thousands of these necklaces were gifted across the globe while creating a visible expression of our community and the stories we carry. We believe awareness is most powerful when it comes from the people who live it.

So this September, when you wear your Momcology necklace, know that thousands of others are wearing theirs too, each with a different story, but together creating a movement.

🙋‍♀️ RAISE YOUR HAND IN THE COMMENTS if you’ve used your necklace to create awareness! Even better, share your story. Where did you wear it? Did someone ask about it? Did it open the door to a conversation about childhood cancer?

💛 Please share in the comments your raised hands and stories so we can see community-driven awareness in action.

🩷A heartfelt thank you to Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation and Northwestern Mutual / Northwestern Mutual - King of Prussia for your sponsorship, partnership, service to the childhood cancer community and to this program. We could not do it without you.

While the gifting program has reached capacity, due to the overwhelming popularity of this year’s gift we ordered additional necklaces in two colors that are now available for purchase in our shop.

Whether you’re newly diagnosed, years into survivorship, navigating grief, or simply looking for a place to connect, there is a place for you here. 💛

While most people are "aware" of childhood cancer, many are unaware of the critical issues that surround it. Research funding for childhood cancer is inadequate, and the long-term effects of chemotherapy on young, developing bodies can be devastating. The financial strain placed on families can be overwhelming. Throughout the journey from diagnosis to treatment, and even into survivorship or bereavement, children and their families face immense physical and daily emotional challenges. This burden extends to siblings and can strain school and social relationships, all while the persistent fear of cancer recurrence looms in the background.

Raising awareness is not just about acknowledging the existence of childhood cancer; it is about fostering new hope. We must advocate for early detection, pursue better treatments and outcomes, be educated to make informed choices, eliminate barriers to care, enhance research funding, and cultivate supportive communities like Momcology.

Until we achieve all of the pieces above (and so much more), our hearts can't heal without much greater awareness for childhood cancer.

🎗Sometimes people ask, WHY do you choose to stay involved with childhood cancer after treatment or the days in and out of the hospital are over?

🎗The answer is simple: You can't "unknow" childhood cancer.

🎗Those days are etched in our lived experiences as parents, and they will always be remembered.

🎗Each child and family we encounter, along with their struggles, remains in our hearts.

🎗When you know where pain and inequity exists, you must try to do something about it.

🎗September is important because it gives us, childhood cancer families, the opportunity to let others peek inside our world and ask for help in honor of our children and the families we have met and supported through our own heartache.

🎗Awareness negates isolation and allows us to help each other, by bringing others in.

🎗When we can help others, we heal too.

🎗Awareness is an opportunity for new hope.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Our color is GOLD🎗️.

Every story has a beginning. A child, a family, a story, and a date we will never forget. Diagnosis Day.

Each year, nearly 15,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in the United States, while an estimated 400,000 are diagnosed with cancer worldwide.

Whether Diagnosis Day was last week or more than 20 years ago, we will always remember it.

Type of cancer, treatments, hospitals, and outcomes may be different, but somehow our stories have found one another. And here we are, together now, creating awareness.

Today on September 1st, let’s make childhood cancer awareness personal. 🎗️ What was your child’s diagnosis date? Add it in the comments and let the dates tell a story bigger than any statistic.

Every date represents a child. Every date represents a family. Every date represents a story that matters in this fight.
