Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach is a community based 501(c) (3) non-profit funded by annual fundraisers and generous donations by citizens of the community. GSCO was founded in 2002 when the Beaver Island POA collected toys for needy children and asked the Granite Shoals Faith Alliance for help
in passing them out. The GS Faith Alliance joined with community members to form Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach. The main fundraiser for Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach is the Annual Barbecue put on by the Granite Shoals Police Officers Association and the Granite Shoals Fire Auxiliary. Local business help to fund the cost of the BBQ. The annual BBQ is the second Saturday of November at the Granite Shoals Fire Station. Drive through the Fire Station to pick up a plate of BBQ brisket, sausage, potato salad, beans, and a cookie for $20.00. Serving begins at 11:00 until sold out often by 1:00 pm . Operation Fill the Boats Toy drive. For the past few years both the Granite Shoals Police Department and the Granite Shoals Fire Department have put their boats out in front of their buildings and invited the community to fill them with toys and gifts for children ages newborn to 15 for Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach. What we do. Each year Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach provides three new toys or gifts, and one or two new books per child. We also try to give each family a game. Last year we also gave each child a fleece throw or small quilt. We hope to do that again this year. Where families can apply for help from Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach
Parents can pick up applications for Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach until December 14th at Highland Lakes Elementary, 8200 FM 1431, Granite Shoals, Texas Dept. of Health & Human Services, 1406 Resource Parkway, Marble Falls and The Helping Center, 1016 Broadway, Marble Falls. Once a family fills out an application they get a voucher with a number on it. On Saturday December 18th, they must bring that voucher and ID to Grace UMC to pick up the bagged toys and gifts for their children. How do we do it? A few volunteers shop throughout out the year, especially at sales. Most of our shopping is done after the BBQ fundraiser. Grace UMC graciously lets us store everything up in their small building. Granite Shoals Christmas Outreach buys books from FirstBook.org who has partnered with publishers and others to provide low cost books to schools and programs serving needy children. On Saturday December 11, many volunteers are needed at Grace United Methodist Chu, to sort them by age and gender to shelves in the small building at Grace UMC. Everything is counted and then it is time for more shopping. Wednesday and Thursday before Distribution Day, more volunteers come and to select gifts for each child in a family. They are only given the age and gender of each child in a family with a bag for each child. Other volunteers are there to assist in picking age appropriate books and gifts and checking everything before bagging the gifts. How you can help.
